the tactical philosophy of Steve Bruce:
- Allow opposition a **** load of shots on goal in hope that our keeper will have a worldie
- Give the ball to ASM and hope he does it all himself
- Rely on old Lady Luck
With the players Newcastle have they should certainly be more expressive in their play, otherwise what’s the point of buying the likes of Fraser

A more solid performance. Platform created with a bit more control in midfield even if Fred and Mc Sauce weren't amazing. However the latter grew into the game and slotted into a back three when the subs came on allowing the full backs to get forward and covering Maguire who was struggling with an injury it seems. Rashford had a better game which was nice to see. Bruno was poor until he get angry. However lets not get carried away - it was a poor Newcastle team .

The controversy around this offside (and the VVD/Pickford incident) is because we've now changed where they measure handballs. Last season both Mane and VVD would have been onside because they would have drawn the line from their shoulder. However because of all the controversy around handballs when the ball was striking the attackers shoulder area, they tweaked the handball law so it must strike below the shirt sleeve. As a result of this a forward can now legally play the ball with the top of their arm so that's where they draw the offside line from.

edit: this explains it:
Interesting that the blue line is being measured from the front of the Everton players boot and not the back of it

So there’s rumours going around Twitter that VvD has an ACL injury and will be out for 7-8 months/ rest of the season.

The rumours are based on guess work by Richard Keys. Liverpool have briefed the local press that they are still waiting for scan results however they are bracing themselves for bad news.

James Pearce has said the club will know more once VVD's seen a consultant. Consultant probably wouldn't be needed if it wasn't serious and required surgery so got to hope he's available for the Champions League final.

Interesting that people still think the lines are at all accurate to be able to be able to judge such close calls, you could take the same frame and draw entirely new lines claiming the opposite to be true and the footage is so unclear it's impossible to tell anyway. That's not even getting into things like which frame is quickly being chosen and how they are using cameras not directly in line. They should just scrap the lines and go with "clear and obvious error" method that generally works quite well if the VAR bloke isn't a total idiot.

Football is so broken, Kouyata has 2 hands round Burns at a corner, ref tells him to stop it and ball comes in and he's still got 2 arms wrapped round him, no whistle or VAR then up the other end Lamptey places a hand on the shoulder of Batshuayi and he throws himself backwards onto the floor and VAR agrees with ref and awards a penalty.

One shot on target in the entire game from a penalty at home to Brighton. Standard Palace, such a dross team to watch.

Edit: shocking challenge from Dunk and rightly sent off.
