"For the moment, just like other Intel Z490 motherboards, PCI Express 4.0 isn’t possible under Comet Lake CPUs but that hasn’t stopped MSI from implementing a PCIe Gen4 configuration which is able to utilise this technology once it arrives via future CPU updates."

So no your stuck with 3.0.

Think 2022 for Intel PCIe upgrades, and heard they may skip 4.0 altogether. Not that i know much, just from recent reading.

Ok cheers bit of a mis-sell then really?

Some of these vendors seem to have baked in PCIe 4.0 support for Rocket lake 11th Gen coming out in Q1 2021 apparently which Intel confirmed as supporting PCIe 4.0 in a recent post. Its suspected the current z490 platform should support these new CPU's hence some of the board partners claiming PCIe 4.0 support. See how it pans out I suppose.
