You can use any header, in theory. Most modern motherboards come with a "Pump" header, for this purpose. If you don't have one, you can use a spare Fan header.

I honestly would suggest to get an Aquacomputer quadro, you can connect your pump there and all the fans, each 4 pin port can support 25w, that's a lot of fans, the aquasuite software is the best for liquid cooling monitoring, and you can set up curves for fans and pump based on components temp or if you put a temp sensor in the loop you can base it on the temp of the liquid

I see no reason to run a D5 pump at full tilt, certainly not for the average loop - wouldn't think it would help the pump life either!

I run my D5 at about 30% of the max speed (can't tell you exactly as it's controlled with a speed dial on the pump, rather than PWM)

I’m using the same pump/res in my build.....if you plug into a fan/pump header on the board, do you still need to use the molex plug the pump comes with?

Is it one or the other? Or both?
