A current option is the A4E, which is a free, hi-definition aircraft, made by the community. It's not perfect, as I believe that some functionality is not available. For all that, appears to be a solid module and is fun.

My suggestion is to use the A4E and wait until the next sale is on, then grab the F18.

I gave up on DCS because the university workload and sold my joystick throttle last year :(
But it's been calling me and I went to buy new hostas setup and the prices were crazy, even used prices on eBay lol.

I got lucky and seen CH gear that is great condition £100 for both so I can use the new A10c upgrade :D

My father in law made me some dust covers for my old setup and they fit nicely.

I recently joined a uk based squadron. Their expectation is that you can fly a Harrier, which I’ve owned since release and am competent with. Outside of the weekly primary missions, we fly whatever we fancy, and I’ll be hosting a WW2 bomber escort mission on Monday.

The key point about multiplayer is finding a bunch of people that you like flying with. The good news is that most squadron fliers are not only nice chaps, but also helpful and knowledgeable.

I’ve spent time on public servers. Some have interesting goals, some not. Far fewer griefers than you’ll find in most games, IMO, as a result of the minimum skill level to even get an aircraft in the air.

Hey chaps,

Currently looking to upgrade my PC for DCS and the Reverb G2, could do with some advice.

Currently looking at buying a Ryzen R5 5600x, I really only play games on my PC so is a R9 5900x worth the extra cost?

For the GPU I am looking at upgrading to either the RTX3080TI or AMD 6900XT.

What would you purchase? 3090 is wwaaayy to expensive even though the 24GB would be great.

Any thoughts/advise would be welcome.

Things to consider:
- The G2 is now sold out until what appears to be the end of the year
- There's no stock of any of the high end GPUs and we've no idea when that will change
- The initial benchmarks comparing the 3080 and 6800XT seem to include that their performance is quite similar. However, none of the benchmarks I've seen have included DCS
- A new DCS engine is apparently currently being built, and will support Vulkan. What implications that will have for potential preferences for hardware, or say support for DLSS, we simply don't know

So right now, there's a lot of unanswered questions and even if they were, you can't really buy what you want.

I'd suggest that you hang on until there's a bit more stability in the market, cards are available and the prices have dropped from their current hype level. By then we might also have some genuinely useful benchmarks on which to make a decision.

I've just gotten into the dcs world.
The free aircraft are ok but I'm waiting for the next sale on steam so I can get an f16 or f18 high fidelity.

Along with an aircraft or two what else is worth getting in terms of modules ?

F16 still needs quite a bit of work yet I think worth checking the forums. F18 is more complete and good all rounder. I quite like the warthog which is fully finished (at least the first 1)

Flaming cliffs 3 is a good starter pack with a bunch of low fidelity aircraft.

Depends what you want to play. If it's multiplayer maybe look at getting another map. If it's SP then some campaigns.

It's easy to get carried away.

If you’re getting an F18, grab the super carrier.

As for maps, Gulf or Syria. Gulf is more commonly used.

Further options include say a chopper. The Huey is still regarded as one of the best modelled in any sim.

WW2 is getting better. I recently bought the P47, which is very charismatic.

Cheers guys.... I will have a read into what maps based on your suggestions.

How much I get will depend on the sale if there is one this black friday..

Got £100 quid to spend initially. Probably a drop in the ocean hahahah

Or VR as far as I've seen so far. Love to know how well DCS and MFS2020 run in VR on these new gen cards.

msfs2020 runs really good on a rtx3080 Tuf oc at height getting 60 frame rate at low about 30, however they haven’t got VR at the moment as it’s in development. My pc is not really current though, it’s a i7 6800 on a x99-11a board with 32 ram and a fast pro plus ssd.

but saying that one expects the frame rate to be low because MSFS is the new Crysis.
