Which X570 motherboard for Ryzen 5000

So, I may, depending on game benchmarks go for my first AMD CPU with the new Ryzen 5000 chips, but have no idea what a good motherboard is for it. Looking at spending £400-500 at most, requirements are plenty of USB’s, SATA’s and a couple of M.2 slots.

Also, is there anything I need to know that’s different from an Intel system, like PSU, RAM anything that might be important to know?

Thanks.

In the same boat. I went for the X570 Tomahawk.

Seems to have great VRMs, very popular, good reviews. Has everything I needed for £210.

Ram Im hearing 3200 with lower timings can beat average timed 3600. And gains for 3600 over 3200 are small. Extreme diminishing gains after that.

Yeah ill be using my 3200 C16 ram for now, then waiting to see if the gains are worth the price. Think 4000 32 gb is like £350 +

The Ryzen 5000's will utilise the same IMC as 3000's, so Infinity Fabric will likely be limited to 1800-1900MHz, meaning that 3600-3800MHz DDR4 run in 1:1 will remain the sweetspot. Tight-timings will also be key for Ryzen, so Samsung B-Die and high-end Micron E-Die-based RAM will be a good match.

Any mid-range ~£200 X570 will offer ~99% performance of boards costing 2-3x the price, so just pick one with the connections you need. Spend the money saved on a better CPU/Mobo/RAM combo, as you'll notice a far bigger performance differential than opting for a premium mobo.

@WhiteHawk77 as with many others, I have come to the conclusion the MSI Tomahawk X570 seems to be universally well reviewed and so that is what I went with in the hopes of getting a 5000 series.

I am hoping 3600 ram will be plenty, how do I know what ram chips are on the Crucial Ballistix 3600 I have ? I am not sure they are likely to run at 4000, memory overclocking is something I normally avoid !

A program called Thaiphoon Burner will give you the information you need.

Thanks.
Looks like bad luck on my part (there' a surprise :p).
I guess the line I am looking for is this one and would ideally say E not B.: 16 Gb B-die (Z22A / 17 nm) / 1 die ?

I do have some Team Group 8 pack, but its only 16gb not 32, and its 3200. As its around 2.5 years old, not much chance of that being happy at 4000 either.
Guess I have to hope 3600 isn't much slower than 4000 on Ryzen 5000 :D

my x570 msi godlike should be sweet for the 5000x series chips though max the infinity fabric can run or sweet spot is indeed 1800-1900
so i have to run my ddr4 4000mhz stuff at 3800 and 1900 inf fab to get a 1/1 ratio ;) its what i have currently set with tight timings .... 16.16.16.32 T1 with modified secondary and treachery timings. ;) its what i currently run with my 3950x @4.3ghz all core @1.2v

I've just bought the MSI Tomahawk on the back of all the good reviews.
Also bagged some team group 3200 that will do 3600 15,15,15,15,30 @1.44v
Should be ample for what I want

@Vogon From what I've read, I was led to believe that the Crucial Ballistix memory used Micron E die. Going by your findings this doesn't seem to be the case which has surprised me.

Maybe its the 3200 that uses the E die .... Or it might just be that I got old stock, I did get the non rgb version.

Thanks. I've just picked up a kit of the 3600 rgb so I'll have have to do some further investigating to try and confirm what it has.

Apologies to the OP for hijacking the main topic.

Not at all, a B550 is fine, just be aware not pcie4 on all nvme slots and some restrictions with disabling of certain other ports (board specific) when using the chipset nvme.
The only caveat is to ensure it is a decent amount cheaper than a similarly featured X570, or else there is little point.
The Msi Tomahawk B550 looks to have the same VRM's as the X570 Tomahawk, and comes in at £50 less so its certainly worthy of consideration.
