He won't come back, he's a devout guy and a big part of his culture is respecting your elders. The Ferguson boat has sailed and Justin gave him the sort of beating that changes you permanently - he would have got destroyed too IMO, so between his mum's wishes and not wanting to fight someone he's already beaten again... that's that.

The plan was always for Islam to take the mantle once Khabib retired as the lightweight guy so we're just going to see that now. Hopefully he can carry on the maulings for our entertainment.

Also haven't seen this posted but Chimaev is supposed to be fighting Edwards now, a massive jump up as obviously Dana is trying to get him into the upper echelons of welterweight ASAP.

Now I've calmed down...

It was interesting that once Khabib got Justin on the floor he immediately went into BJJ mode with the mount and looking for a submission finish - an area Justin has little to no experience in - and it showed because he basically did what he wanted with him as soon as he'd secured those takedowns - as in previous fights he's looked to drain opponents down, do a lot of damage then if an opportunity arises he'd go for a sub, but tonight he just looked like after feeling out the first couple of minutes he just wanted to finish it as quickly as possible. Makes sense if he had a damaged foot.

Amazing how he's made everyone elite at LW look ordinary... but now he's gone it should be fun seeing the belt change hands a bit over the next couple of years, because I don't think we'll see anyone as dominant for a while.

Apparently Khabib told DC that he chose to put Justin to sleep over the arm bar because he was worried he’d not tap with his car-crash mentality and end up getting his arm broken in front of his parents - he thought that wouldn’t be cool so he chose the more considerate option. What a nice guy.

He also got the mumps just as his camp started as well as the two broken toes, but... well, champ gonna champ. Never beaten, never cut - hell most fighters take more damage in a single round than he did over his whole career. #thuglife

Gaaawdammit, Islam has had to pull out of the RDA fight. He’s emulating that year or so Khabib has when he was always injured/hospitalised. Was looking forward to that. :(

EDIT - like Khabib he caught the mumps, but instead of at the start of camp he got it right at the end as he was cutting weight for fight week. Bad times.

Felder stepping up to fight RDA! Not a fan of his commentary but massive respect for taking a fight like that on such short notice. I think he has a pretty good chance as well.
