Chrome "you're using an adblocker" pop-ups (even if I'm not)

I have these pop-ups appear on those sites that try to stop people using adblockers (of which there are many). I do use Adblock, but I have been pausing it to use these sites to no avail. I even tried uninstalling it, but I still get these pop-ups. So, if I really want to read something from a site like this, I have to open up Edge.

This is a pain, but I haven't been able to find a solution. I assume it's something to do with cookie settings? Do I have to allow sites full permissions all the time to get around this?

Surely I'm not the only Chrome user with this issue?

nope i ended up uninstalling it

Well, that sucks. I hope some solution presents itself as I've become pretty invested in the synchronisation of things across my devices through Chrome and other Google services.

Switch to Ublock Origin.

I will check that out for sure, but the issue isn't the ablocker, since I have now (temporarily) uninstalled all adblockers and I am still having this happen.
