My card has pretty loud coil while, first card I've ever had with coil while :(

Apparently loads of them are like this though?

My FE gets coil wine as well. The oddest things it is at only at some fan speeds. not the lowest, not the highest. Just need to do some tweaking on my fan curves when I have the time.

Okay lads finally got my hands on a 3090

Set up I'm running is

2600x (till zen 3)
16gb 3600mhz (will be going 4400)
3090 fe got it Idle at 28 and max under load 54

My port royal scores are low 13778 I thought port royal wasn't to fussed on cpu as is a pure gpu bench I take it will shoot up when I get a 5950x ?

Forgot to mention that is over clocked aswell

54deg?? That's very good what are you running?

Mine gets to 67 max and I'm rendering with octane (hours) and using 100% cuda core utilisation.

Idle us about 28/29

Pretty common on high end cards especially high wattage ones. My 2080Ti was unbearable and is the main reason my pc is now several feet away as it now can’t be heard at all.

I tried several cards, boards, PSU’s nothing changed. Some were better than others but was still very audible.

Best thing IMO is undervolting as it will reduce the power usage and thus noise. I suspect the 30 series will respond well to that without impacting performance much. 60hz it’s pretty minimal high refresh and it’s like an old 1980’s hard drive, easily the loudest thing in the case.

I've had this really badly too in the past.

Do people recommend running it full tilt for a few days solid or something?

I couldn't get rid of it on my last card without under-volting.

I guess that may be a quicker way of doing it, but stress test loads are running at a particular frequency so heavy gaming with the variable workload will stress across many frequencies and resonances. I've just gamed on them and they quieten down after a few weeks or a couple of months. Depends how often you game. But I've had some noisy ones in the past and they ended up being silent. A 7990 I had was particularly loud but when I came to selll it it was silent. Maybe when you hit a loading screen with 2000fps they will still squeal but set a frame rate limiter if it's annoying.

Just to reassure you, I’ve tried two reference boards - one Palit OC and another PNY, neither had any coil whine so unless it’s PSU related then I’d expect you should be fine.

Same to add, i have the Palit 3090 non oc and there's no coil whine. I'm using an EVGA 750w GQ, having a look at power draw i sit around 580-611w via the wall so probs abit less than that.

You could always flash the bios and see how it does with a 390w power limit? Strix should let you get up to 500w with the right bios (and it’ll use it).

Assuming temps are in check I would expect a gigabyte master or OC bios to get you to above the 2ghz mark simply enough, just don’t use a bios for a 3 plug card on a card with 2 plugs.
