I'm surprised Nvidia seemed to know what price to release the 3080 to roughly match the price of the 6800xt.
Seems these companies know quite a bit about each others products.

Likely the other way around if anything given the timeline. Nvidia went first then AMD priced accordingly. Recall some of the youtubers saying in the past that Nvidia literally confirm the price hours before at times. Would not be massively surprised if something similar happened with AMD here given how reviewers who got the slide pack prior to the presentation got it all bar the pricing.

Is it true that the lower end RX 6800 has 26.8 billion transistors, like the other Navi 21 GPUs? I wonder if this, plus the infinity cache + ray tracing hardware might explain the relatively high price?

Not much info about the RT hw yet, I wonder if it might be the same RT hw for all three Navi 21 GPUs?

16GB VRAM seems a bit overkill for the RX 6800, I think 10gb / 12 gb wouldve been enough...

Maybe they could release a version with less VRAM for £50-100 less, especially since the RTX 3070 'only' has 8GB VRAM at £470.

As far as I'm aware the RT is baked into each CU

Okay, makes sense. Very little perf. difference between RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT then, by the looks of things.

Why did they even need to call it the 6900 XT? Why not just RX 6900?

I guess they could still do a 6900 XTX later

RX 6900 XT theoretical perf:

PIXEL FILL-RATE Up to 288.00 GP/s
TEXTURE FILL-RATE Up to 720.00 GT/s
23.04 TFlops

Superior to the RTX 3090 in 2 out of three areas, by quite a bit. And perhaps slightly better memory bandwidth perf too.

AMD will be king if they can catch up on raw processing power (TFlops). But they are a loooong way behind here.

Wonder if even higher clocks could help them to achieve this on non reference models? A new fab process like TSMC 5nm+ certainly wouldnt hurt.

^^ what's the 6900xt on, like 24tflops? The rtx3090 is on 36tflops I belive - they wouldn't be there without that 2x FP32 architecture change they made

Watched this cool analysis - seems that when you remove the rage and Sam fluff that amd used, the performance difference between the 6800xt and 6900xt is just 5%

Hold your horses there sunshine. Isn't the difference between the 3080 and 3090 just the same? An AIB 3080 thats clocked well can get very close to a 3090FE I bet, I dont see what the deal is with always pointing out AMD shenanigans when nvidia are full of it to the core themselves?

No, more like 10% faster which makes it much better value at 200% the price of the 3080 vs the 5% better perf of the 6900XT at 150% the price... errrr.... oh...

I suspect the 6900xt is holding back a bit to fit within that same 300W limit as the 6800XT with 8 more CUs... rage mode might let it shine a little more but also isn't a proper overclock according to GN, so will be fascinating to compare the fully unleashed 6900XT vs the fully unleashed 6800XT. One assumes they are using higher binned chips to be able to achieve the same 300W TBP, same clocks, more CUs so it stands to reason they would be able to be pushed higher too with a little fiddling.

Whatever way you cut it though the 3090 and 6900XT both appear to offer incredibly poor value for gamers over the 3080 and 6800XT.

I have a feeling the wattage limits will be casually thrown out the window by the AIBs

But they won't have their paws on the 6900 until basically next year.
