Worth upgrading from 3600 to 5600x?

Hey, I've just spent a little time searching for the answer and I can't find any threads, is it going to be worth upgrading from a 3600 to a 5600x or 5800x? Will the 5600x be a single CCX like the 3300x? I have managed to find from my search that the 5800x will be a single CCX.

Probably not unless you already have a RTX 2080ti/30 series GPU and play at 1440P or lower.

If you don't already have one of the above GPUs then putting the money towards a 30 series or big navi card will give you the most power for gaming unless of course you have the cash laying around for both.

Assuming for gaming purposes? What graphics card have you got and are you intending on upgrading it?

Yeah gaming and lots of code compiling, that's about it :)

I will be looking towards the 6800 or the 6800xt but I'll probably wait for those reviews before picking one. Currently, I have a PowerColor 5700xt twin fan and my monitor is 1440p 165Hz.

No one knows yet, but you could be looking at between a 10-20% improvement depending on the scenario. My opinion is, if you are going to upgrade - go for an 8 core. It will give you some future proofing.

The reviews aren't out yet. We're happy to speculate and discuss, but nothing will be certain until the reviews are out and we've seen the benchmarks.

The IPC has improved by 19% plus a few more % for increased clockspeed. We'll know more next week.

As to whether an upgrade is 'worth it', that's always going to be debatable because the worth of something is an opinion which differs from person to person. Some think it's worth upgrading for 19%, while others (like me) prefer a bigger increase.

It's gonna be a huge improve in gaming performance but everything depends what GPU do you have currently?
I'm supprised people think changing a CPU when playing at 1440P will be a huge improvement because as it stands the 3600 is only 4% behind a 10900K at that resolution with an RTX 3080 and with the higher clocked 5900X only around 5% faster than this at 1080P which would translate to just a couple of % at 1440P so at best you would be looking at a +6% improvement over with a 3600 with a 5600X at 1440P although if paired with an AMD GPU the gains could end up being more with SAM enabled but until it's been independently tested we won't have the full picture.

I have 3600 was dead set on 5800x until I saw price but no way would consider upgrading to 5600x even if it is a beast which it is, doesn't seem worth it to hop from 6 core to 6 core in my mind, maybe that's OCD. Going to pump my funds onto a 6800xt instead.

Yeah, I have a 2600 which I know is fine, but I wouldn't buy another 6 core CPU and certainly not for nearly 3x what I paid for the one I already have. I wouldn't buy another 8GB VRAM GPU either, and DEFINITELY not for 2.5x what I paid for the one I have. If I'm upgrading I want a huge performance uplift from what I have.

Cinebench R20 3600 was 3437 and 5600x went up to 4104.
Single threaded 3600 was 480 and 5600x went up to 598.
Just XMP enabled for ram at 3200.
So if you think that's worth an upgrade go for it, if not, then go higher or keep the 3600.

I suspect it will if you run certain older games, which show a noticeable improvement on a current generation Core i5(Fallout 4,etc). This is where I think the biggest improvement will be in - games based on older engines, where Zen2 is held back by latency.

I paid £137 for my Ryzen 5 2600 two years ago,and the Ryzen 5 5600X is around double that. It would be a decent upgrade for me,but I think I might look for a Ryzen 7 3700X deal, unless we have a Ryzen 5 5600 non-X out this year at around £200.

Same here, I have a 3600 and was planning to get an 8 core zen 3 chip but I was expecting it to be closer in price to a 5600X and I'm certainly not spending 300 quid on a 6 core so I'll wait and see if the price comes down or new SKUs are released otherwise I will probably end up getting a 5900X as that is currently the only Zen 3 chip that offers VFM.
