Hi Guys, you may know me from such poorly updated threads, such as MK2 Escort build.. :D:rolleyes: This thread should hopefully be a bit different as I am going to try and update it with everything I do. Short bit of info about me, I have always wanted to go racing, I tried my hand at Rotax Max Go-Karts which I enjoyed, but at the time money ran out and I couldn't afford to do it. I am now in the fortunate position where I can allocate a budget and go racing next year! However I wont be going go-karting. I have always wanted to race cars, so after the recent Bad Obsession Motorsport youtube series popped up, it decided for me!

So may I present, the Citroen C1 VT, which I plan to race int he City Car Cup next year. A beast of a car, 2009 with keep fit windows and some plastic trim, this beast cost me the grand total of £500! I have already ordered the Compulsory Kit, which consists of things like the RollCage, Wheels, Tyres etc. I have also ordered the Safety Kit, which you can source the parts yourself but for ease of everything I have ordered that. I will also replace the calipers, discs, brake drums, shoes, cylinders, wheel bearings for standard items, I just want to limit any mechanical issues.

I also have to do my ARDS, buy the correct safety equipment and a few other things so while it is one of the cheapest ways of getting into motorsport, it is still expensive! I will try and keep a tally on my spend as I go along. So first post and first couple of photos and spend...

The Car:

Spend so far:

Car - £500
Mandatory City Car Cup Kit - £2900
Safety Kit - £1399
Non Locking Fuel Cap - £12.88
Non Locking Boot Button Release - £13.70

Total so far - £4825.58

Wish me luck!!

Nope, bodywork must stay standard.

Nice, I’m guessing you’ve clocked on that I’m referring to TT who ruined his Elise. Actually I wonder what he’s up to these days?

Regardless this should be an interesting thread and I look forward to seeing developments!

This looks interesting!

Just wondering how it stacks up in cost compared to some guys I know who race Exocets, seems to be a fair bit cheaper.

Ah, Turbotoaster, if he's still not kicking about the internet being an idiot then he's probably killed himself in a fireball somewhere.

He recently started another thread on PistonHeads which reached five or so pages before being locked and deleted.

The Bad Obsession Motorsport guys (Project Binky) have been racing in this years series and have been uploading videos since they bought the car, converted it for racing and raced it. Many events were cancelled but they managed a win, a couple of seconds, a fourth (from last on the grid) and a DNF. The series looks really fun and they are all very competitive although there are tight restrictions on what you can do to the car.

I'll try to log everything I spend for everyone to see, so will be interesting to see as this is sold as entry level..
Circuit racing of any description is just so costly when you compare it to other traditional grass roots motorsports (Road Rallying, Sprints, Hillclimbs)
A mate of mine really wanted to do this C1 challenge but the basic costs were more than he could justify.

I had planned to do sprinting/hillclimbing a few years back, but cost per seat time was awful, so I never bothered. I am just in the fortunate position at the moment where I can afford to do this. Its something ive always wanted to do so ive got a budget in mind for the complete year so as long as its under that I will be happy.

Yep that is true - the seat time for sprints and hillclimbs is low - road rallying still the cheapest I can think of!

Looking forward to the updates and good luck.

This last month I've been a bit spendy on a sim racing setup. I had wondered whether buying a dog eared Clio to go racing would have been cheaper. Feeling slightly less guilty now :)
