The price gouging on the 5950x is disgusting....Same goes for the 5900x and 5800x.

They are available for pre order elsewhere for less people, don't support this daylight robbery.

If it said for example, 500 pieces of 5900X are available on launch day then we are receiving 500 each week after then all good. The first 500 people purchasing (in a minute) get allocated theirs then it changes to pre order or ETA, similar to buying iPhones directly.

Even some comms now would be good, on the lines of "We had only 200 on launch day, but are receiving 300 a week (or however many) so you will have yours based on queue position in x weeks

Not knowing how many they had on launch day to sell or how many they are receiving means it doenst matter if im no. 5 in the queue or 5000. If they had 1 to sell and receive 1 a month, im waiting a while! If they had 4000 and receive 1000 each week then great. 1 week wait

I'm, going to call and find out

You make it sound like there's a tap you can turn on and it remains a steady flow. Which is not the case.

As for communication, check this post:

Hi there

Not great news concerning the large official amount of stock, this is a copy and paste of the message the master distributor sent to me:
Heads up Gibbo - AMD delivery dates continue to slip on 5000 series from their latest backorder report- here is latest expected to ship in nov - 300 x 5900x PIB now with sdd date of 24/11, 60 x 5950x pib with SDD date of 20/11 , 108 x 5600x mpk with sdd date of 26/11 . sorry its a mssive pain these keep slipping

As soon as they give me another update I shall let you guys know.

It may not be a steady tap but having info like easily available helps. A competitor does not provide any such info.

Initial info from OcUK was "thousands" which turned out to not be the case by the sounds of it. A notice on the product page that numbers were going to be less would have been good. Or even a forum thread that was locked with all info on 5000 series launch. That would have been great

I just canceled my order for 5900 and decided not to switch from mac to PC as if what apple said about M1 is true Intel and AMD are in big trouble. I'm using my machine for development and until now Docker was a big pain running due to its volumes mapping. ARM based systems are not having this problem and M1 matching the performance of 5900 and 5950 and being much cheaper is a game changer

Ohh man you almost made it out, I bet you could almost taste the freedom ;)

I sent in a webnote and recieved this reply.

"Thank you for your webnote. We are hopeful that all orders for the new Ryzen processors placed on or near to release day will be fulfilled in the next 4-6 weeks."

Hopefull being 271 in the queue, that means im near the front? If ALL the orders "on or near" the 5th will be fullfilled in 4 to 6 weeks, then the FIRST should be done much quicker right? Just speculating here but im very annoyed at having pretty much zero information.

They ordered thousands, doesn't mean a single container arrives with all of the stock, it's up to what can be produced. I do however agree that a single source of info with daily updates is a much more professional approach and avoids having various threads speculating.

Anyone order a 5800x from the "other" store and if so what time? I think their site broke and has put me at the back of the queue, unless they really did clear all stock in under 10 minutes....

So a certain northern based company had a delivery of 5600x's for their pre-orders today and have recieved/shipped the grand total of 30! If that's the sort of numbers we are going to get for the least popular chips I'm concered about the others!

Seems after these initial stock runs, there is going to be a sizable delay. Some people are getting estimates for Q1 2021.

I can't even get them to be honest about their queue system keeling over right now. I don't mind waiting, but I won't tolerate being lied to.

Another competitor cleared all stock in minutes due to 10,000 people attempting to purchase...

Thank you for your custom. We're writing to give you an update on your pre-order:

Demand for the AMD Ryzen 5000 was extremely high, 10,000 people attempted to purchase, and our launch stock sold out within minutes. We are aware that some did not receive a notification once this initial stock had sold out and we switched to taking pre-orders, a notification should have occurred before completing your order and asked you to re-confirm. We are investigating why this happened and are looking improve this we are also developing a queue based system to make it a smoother experience for our customers. We apologise if you were affected by this. We are working with AMD to get the latest delivery information, we have been assured that there is stock coming over the next few weeks. Once we get confirmed dates and quantities we will update our Ryzen 5000 FAQ page and send our further email updates to give a estimated date for your order. We will also be updating the FAQ page daily, please check this page for the latest information https://bla.. the page also contains details of our pre-order promise and outlines the options available to you.

- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core AM4 CPU/Processor
Your current queue position is 589. We are working hard with our suppliers and partners to get an estimated arrival date, please watch your email for further updates.

All stock is allocated on a first come first serve basis, dates given are an estimate based on the latest information given to us by our suppliers and your queue position.

Any other items on your order have been reserved so that your order can be fulfilled as soon as the other items arrive. Should you require any further information or assistance, or wish to make any amendments to your order, please reply directly to this email.

I got that copy/paste response to questions I emailed them. So I've replied asking how exactly I'm last after 11 minutes and how is it that I managed to be exactly the last person to order? I'm not after a free pony or anything just a "sorry, it looks like we messed up your position" starting to think using the smaller shops is the way forward.

That's the thing being told different dates and being given no real eta is what irritates me, at least if they tell me I can make an informed decision.

The only big advantage of ARM CPUs is power efficiency. Not actual raw speed. And nowhere Apple claim these new ARM ones will be faster. All they say is that they will be perf/W king - and that's fine, mobile CPUs already are. But that aside, they're WAY behind top Intel/AMD CPUs with raw performance. They instead use mobile approach to clocking down and switching between BIG/small cores to keep power usage to minimum. Quieter computers, less heat, much longer battery life. But definitely not more raw speed, not even close.

So, depending of your use case, you might be very disappointed with M1. Raw performance is not what Apple want nor aim at, it's portability, silence and battery life with still good enough performance in Apple software.

I have over the past couple of days thought about binning off all my orders & doing my new build with the 7700k hardware I already have.
Yes its only 4 cores @ 5ghz, but it works & does the job.

However I, like a lot of people here don't build a new PC just for generic usage but for the fun of it & as a hobby.

I wanted to move to an AMD CPU purely as I'd not used one for nearly 20 years, plus the performance of the 5950 sounded excellent.

I have 2x CPUs on order, plus the build items already received I have best part of £3k invested in my hobby, & I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks this way.
Which is why so many people are so annoyed with how the recent hardware launches have gone.

Something needs to change, unfortunately I don't things will as we as consumers are treated as we will put up with anything just to get the end product.

Having been a PC enthusiast & built PCs for 35 years so I'm sure the rose tinted specs are on, but things were better back in the day.

What could change is people stop expecting to receive a cutting edge product immediately its released.

This happened with Nividia, with AMD, with PS5 etc.

Whilst it would be nice for their to be more availale this stuff will never be easy to buy from launch, if people just accept they may need to wait a few weeks or even months there would be no disappointment. this stuff isnt important in the big scheme of things. its just computer parts a bit quicker than the currently available computer parts.

(And Im buying everything for a new build which is going to take months at this rate so I know :) )

I just spoke to competitor and was told there is a 6 week ETA total on the 5000 series (all models) provided 6 week wait was by AMD
Pre orders were stopped at a certain amount so the 6 week ETA could be met

Given that I am 589 in the queue for a 5900X and there are 1496 outstanding pre orders for the 5900X, this means a 2.5 week wait.
Anyone else can estimate their delivery from the numbers on the Ryzen 5000 series status FAQ.

...That said, I think it will be more than 3 weeks

They did not know the amount of launch day stock of any 5000 series chip. I asked him to check but he seemed adament that he couldnt get the info. I said someone must know, the company you work for sold them!!

Chill out. in East Germany, Soviet Union and other socialist paradises of the past people were waiting 10 years for their cars. Had to admit though, the seller at least had the decency to ask you if you wanted it in the morning or in the afternoon :). Just be patient.
