M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD's - Is now is the time to wait on upgrading!?!?!

Well the title might be slightly miss leading as i probably don't know what i'm talking about but here goes xD

I seen in previous post that Phison have launched their new E18 Gen 4 Controller which i believe is more durable with transfer of 1200MT/s

Then i have seen the news of Micros new 176-Layer NAND which states upto 1600MT/s

So assuming Micron have not tested their controller with this new NAND theoretically it might be able to push this NAND to the maximum 1600MT/s which is a 33% increase in performance. Are we on the horizon of possible 10k+ sequential read speeds?

Would wait for some drives with these new NAND.

those numbers are certainly impressive but I like the fact they always say UPTO.

Definitely time to wait.
Also Silicon Motion (SMI) has released controllers.

No doubt price excess is also going to get lowered with more competition.

might only get a nice 500gb gen4 one during black friday. instead to 500gb+1tb one and wait to see what happens going forward . then can reuse the one i buy in an external enclosure for the ultimate portable drive xD

Where are all these E18 based drives?

The chipset was announced a year ago, and products from adata and others months ago.

But actual stock...

E18 is recent controller.
It's Phison E16 which has been around year+ in Sabrent and many others PCIe v4 drives.

Decided and nabbed a 1TB Firecuda 520 instead of the 500gb as the better overall read/write speeds. With **** 20% code got a bargain for £162.82. Will more than do my needed and if new drives push the prices on these drives down will get another

Everything has been delayed this year.
Was quoted in that article for Q3 2020, been and gone now.
I wasn't keen on 1st gen pci-e 4 nvme, but I am for the second gen drives.

Phison may have had some prototypes running then, but E18 came into into actual production drives only recently.
