Hi All. I would really appreciate some advice.

I am looking to build a system to run the following

FS2020 on a 49" G9 (5120*1440p)

I am thinking about the following combinations:

Either a 3900x or a 5900x (i know there is a wait for those atm)
+
3080RTX or 3090RTX

I suppose my question is if i wanted to run FS2020 hopefully at close to highest settings , will it be cpu or GPU restricted? I.e what is better to invest more money on? the CPU or the GPU?

Its cpu restricted as it mainly uses 4 cores and anything else is barely used from what I have seen. They are used just not very much.

so a 5700x + cooler like a scythe fuma 2
32 gig of ram
1tb ssd standard or m.2
gtx 3080/ti (when released) or 6800xt

Thanks dfour. may i ask why the 5700x instead of the 3900x? (is there a 5700x?)

Also, as im not going to be OC v much if at all, whats considered the best motherboard under £200?

If ryzen best off with a tomahawk at that kind of price - slightly above £200 but huge step up vs the rest of that price range.

And I think he meant the 5800x - higher clock speeds matter more for FS I think from what I've seen. My 5950x boosts up on multiple cores to 4.7-4.9ghz by itself at stock setting.

It's best to invest in the CPU, so 5900x. Most people upgrade the GPU several times, it's a disposable asset that people get rid of within 2 years. The CPU and motherboard needs to be right from the start with plenty of power for future GPU upgrades.

I agree with this - it's why I got what I got.

this is what i have up to now. Looks right? I might still downgrade the 3090 to 3080 and the 64gb of ram to 32 but not sure yet. Depending if i can get away with putting this on expenses :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £4,335.83 (includes shipping: £15.90)

Is the drive worth it? noticed there is a WD one for half the price.

You can get 1TB pcie 4.0 drives for £170, thats what I would get.

tbh the read write speeds for a PCIe 4 NVMe thats ok the Samsung 980 pro is much faster but then again double the price, if you can live with the speeds ;)

Segate
  • Read 5000MB/s
  • Write 4400MB/s
Samsung 980 Pro
  • 7000MB/s Read
  • 5000MB/s Write

Yes thats the one, the board does support 2 x M2 slots however most boards share the PCIe lanes with the SATA ports so if your planning to use normal HDD / SSDs you may be limited as more than likely 2 of the sata ports will be disabled.

for some reason the 1TB 980 is a lot more expensive I do have a Samsung 970 and i am happy with the speeds my board does support PCIe 4 but opted for this due to 980 availability.
