How are you deciding between 6800 and 6800XT?

I was hell bent on getting a 6800xt but ive decided to hold onto the 5700xt, id be mad to upgrade for no reason other than a bit of Ray tracing, i dont struggle with any game at 1440p. Im going to treat myself to 32gb/3600 ram on black friday instead.

The thought has crossed to my mind to pick up a cheap 5700XT Nitro + when the prices drop and just stay at 1440P

I have in the past always picked up a previous gen card brand new and it worked for me so far

since I'm 3440x1440 (albeit only 75hz right now) I'm looking to the 6800XT as it'll never dip under my max refresh at maximum niceness and then it'll allow me to make the jump to a 144hz monitor without a further upgrade.

I have a 1600AF. Playing at 1440p/ultra on a 144hz monitor I’m not sure whether I might be CPU bound? If so I may as well go for the 6800 over the 6800XT.

This will be a card that I’ll keep for quite a while but I’m also unlikely to upgrade my CPU any time soon.

Anyone have any advice please?

I've never seen the point of ray tracing tbh, just not worth it at all with current hardware capabilities

Make sure that's Ryzen compatible RAM and on your motherboards supported list, Ryzen can be a real pia otherwise.

Why the rush? Wait until benchmarks and reviews are out.

The rush is because if people can't make their best attempt at an informed decision now, they'll have to wait 3 months for a card. And some people's current cards are not sufficient to run current games, that they might have social incentives to play at the same time as their friends

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the difference in TDP yet? 6800 is 250W and the XTs are 300W. If you have a small room, you might want to ensure good ventilation, else it become uncomfortably hot inside. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything ;)

Ask the 3080/3090 owners with the 400W+ cards, I'm sure they'll tell you they're fine gaming in their underpants :p
