This is clearly some kind of defect that's just appeared, although I've not seen anything like it before. Any ideas?

Not the dreaded thunderfly?

No it's clearly not one of those... you can see in the close-up that it appears as a small '+', and there's a smudgy horizontal section below it. I've seen plenty of dead/stuck pixels in my time, but nothing like this. I'd almost think something had hit the monitor, but I know that hasn't happened. It's appeared overnight as I'm sure it wasn't there last night, as I was on my computer for a good few hours and I'm sure I'd have noticed given it's virtually in the middle of the screen.

Oh, I thought the + was some kind of cursor.

Weird, never seen that before. Definate fault then. Monitor under warranty?

Yeah me either. Not sure about warranty, can't recall when I bought this, will need to check. Just my luck I'll find out it ended yesterday ha!

Well, the mystery deepens... turned on my monitor this morning and it was gone!! This isn't my main monitor anyway, but it's puzzling.

I know this is an old thread but I just got the SAME exact plus sign pixel with shadow around it. Appeared this morning, and then dissapeared. Only way I could trace it was here. Was wondering if you have any info on the issue or where it originated?

i've found out that there is something with steam that makes it appear. if you close down steam from task manager then it should be gone for a little while. i dont know why it appears, but its the only thing i've found that makes it disappear.

It's a 1x1 window that is being made for some reason. You can find the exact same thing all over reddit. Not sure if anyone ever worked out what application is the culprit or if multiple applications are causing it.

So not a fault or anything on the screen, just windows being dumb.

My guess is that it's a window that the programmer is trying to make invisible. Windows is making it visible because it's applying effects to it. If you look at Task Manager you should be able to work out which application it is.
