I've seen a few times where police have moved over to slow someone down and/or given them a stare/wave to slow down but not pulled them. Also seen an idiot brake check an unmarked police car that pulled out along side me, then paced me for a bit well ahead of the other vehicle, to force someone to slow down that was probably doing around 120 - but I'm pretty sure was going to let them go on their way after that if they'd continued at a reasonable speed. Other driver probably thought they were just a busy body though.

My only close call with Traffic they did exactly this. I was driving over the M62 and using my then GF 1.3 escort so hardly nippy up hill at motorway speeds. There was a woman driving similar to me who was driving something even more underpowered, like a 1litre fiesta or something, who was trying to go faster than me in general but repeatedly losing far more speed than I was and in effect kept getting in my way.

So I thought I will just do 85 for a bit get far enough in front of her that this doesn't happen. I sped up to about 85 and about 10 seconds later a whew noise and blue flashies for a few seconds. I pulled over to middle lane, then slow and they followed me across from 3rd to second and pulled alongside, looked at me and then accelerated away. I assume they had been somewhere not far behind and had seen the her speeding up and slowing down thing but I had lucked out and become the bigger issue at that precise moment once I hit 85. I drove spot on 70 for the next 30 mins or so, so the annoying driver got away from me ;)

On the road....
Hah I need details of why please :)

The industry is H&S obsessed, high visibility clothing/ P.P.E wearing is strictly enforced unless you are said Eastern European in which case you wear flip flops instead of steel toe capped boots like the rest of us yet nothing is ever said.

The Dutch drivers like to wear clogs also although we don’t give them a derisory nickname.... :D

Yeh, there is that rare officer who behaves that way with those doing 100+ in safe conditions but there there are those that pull you for a chat at 85.

I was referring to figures north of 165, however, where I doubt leniency is taken.

Interestingly around here on the Dorset side of the border they are very hot on speeding, they'll go to great lengths to go after someone for speeding, but at the same time they will rarely bother under 86 MPH (in a NSL) unless it involves poor or dangerous driving (not that you'd want to depend on that).

Someone doing like 100 MPH though they will come down like a ton of bricks.

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure they weren't there for that speeder - it would have been his lucky day if he'd just slowed up a bit and continued - instead of speeding off again and then brake checking the unmarked police car when they sped up again to catch up with him.

The unmarked car was actually bothering me a bit as I think they were using me for cover (driving a pickup truck) getting much closer than I was comfortable with and adjusting speed a lot to stay close to me and I was considering putting my foot down and leaving them for dust - good thing I didn't.

Struggling to make sense of this post?

You were flashed doing legal speeds and are surprised you didn't hear anything?

Not to mention beyond sense, reasoning, and fairness. :p
I guess I am mainly alluding to the fact that sometimes the cameras flash for no reason.

I know somebody who was caught at 110mph and evaded a ban by just not giving the details of the driver. Subsequently ended up with 6 points.

So, has he lost his license? Because there was a lot of speculation and not a lot of anything else.

I know that speed cameras don’t flash at 85, can cruise along there all day long.
I am that guy who sits at 60 for the mpg’s!

Why is it ridiculous?

You come across as one of them self righteous idiots hogging up the road driving below the NSL - its a limit not a target and all that

120 isn't really fast if you are a competent driver, the problem is its not Germany so you can spook drivers and other drivers may pull out in front of you or some other misfortune - the speed itself is not really an issue, its everyone else is the problem.

I done around the same speed in Ireland years ago on the M8, it was dark and late and the roads were almost empty and even a bit wet

Yep. I'm a self righteous idiot for being against people doing 120 on British roads
