He listed FUN as the first requirement... New cars are heavy, so more power is required to maintain the power to weight ratio.

Actually, OP listed the ability to have fun and it wasn’t the first requirement. I’m more interested to know why you a vRS doesn’t qualify as a car that you can have fun in?

Regardless of that, OP has taken a liking to the faster Superbs which are also great cars!

I wouldnt consider a VRS a fun car. For fun you need something which also handles.

Like many descriptions in the car world, it depends entirely on what 'fun' means to any given individual.

I absolutely wouldn't describe mine as a fun car, but it is capable enough to have a bit of a play with every now and then - mine being FWD with the VAQ diff, it can get itself in and out of bends with a reasonable level of entertainment involved - certainly amongst company of an Audi A4, Focus ST-Line and Golf GTD/GTI, it's not significantly more or less fun than those but it's obviously not a competitor for a genuine sports car.

You enter a remarkably narrow market looking for something truly 'fun' because it handles, when you're also looking for 4/5 doors and don't want something ridiculously overpowered. When long journeys are such a predominant use case that Cruise Control was the first requirement on the list after the budget, I think it's safe to say the OP isn't expecting GT86 or BMW M car when he wants 'fun'.

I'm looking into the 3 series a little more and have a query - Is "M Sport Suspension" and "Adaptive M Sport Suspension" the same thing worded differently? Or is the adaptive suspension just particularly rare?

I have a feeling it's the latter but if anyone can clarify I'd appreciate it. I've read that the Adaptive set up on this car is a must.

I'm currently looking at these two. The first has Adaptive listed, but has the smaller infotainment screen. The second has M Sport suspension listed but has the larger screen.

Adaptive suspension is different. M Sport suspension is slightly lower and stiffer than standard. Adaptive suspension can change between soft and stiff.

Thanks - I thought as much.

What are your thoughts on this? Granted it's 2016 but it has a strong spec for the money. Finding a decent spec 3-series is a lot more difficult that I thought it would be, even when I go 2-3 grand over budget.

Mini Clubman Cooper S. Practical, handles really well, fairly brisk and they're fun to drive. Decent levels of kit to be had in that price range too, interior is good and the infotainment system, as long as you get one with a touchscreen (2017 and newer I think), is excellent.
