Sound is a funny dynamic for gaming - back in the day I had a Soundblaster Recon3D soundcard, and if I used the right setting then I could play Counterstrike and shoot people through walls with an AWP just from the sound! Could literally close my eyes and just home in on them through a wall through the noise they were making, then......BLAM!

Yeah, I found that before. The only issue was being above or below, although I think that's more of an issue within the game itself. But tracing an enemy along the wall and blasting them immediately.... I like! :D

Got my extended warranty sorted on live chat.

Was a bit of a pain at the start as i couldnt get the advisor to change my warranty date as it was still saying 23rd Sept 2021 and that needed to be sorted before getting MS complete.

Persevered a bit and they liased with the hardware team who got it all sorted so now i have the warranty until Nov 2023.

Used some reward points and some discounted credit too so in cash terms it cost me about £20. Very much worth it for the peace of mind, and decreased hassle if anything goes wrong after a year. Also means i can kick the console or drop a controller by accident and still get it a new one :p.

Do you recall what options you selected to get through to someone on chat? I just keep getting "Phone call and chat not available for this sort of problem, etc".

yes, i think it was, xbox > payment/purchases (although perhaps hardware might be better as this lady had to keep liasing with hardware) > then select xbox gamer. This will put you through to some random xbox expert but if you say you want to purchase the warranty, they will put you through to a specialist (ie someone from MS customer services).

Think I'm gonna go with the Artics 7x for my Series X.

Looks like they also work on PS5 aswell which is a great bonus if I ever pick one up.

Already got the atmos app on Xbox. Is there another DTS app ?

It says the usb dongle is usb c how does that work with the Series X it don't have usb c ports

Had the series X now for almost two weeks, must say I’m really impressed so far.

At the age of 42 with two smallish kids, I rarely get a lot of time to play games anymore. Built a PC again to get back into gaming two years ago but sat there gathering dust so sold.

was going to build a new one with a 3080 but couldn’t justify the outlay. For me the X is the perfect cross between PC and console gaming.

Loading times have absolutely made this a game changer for the console world, love how I can quickly spin it up to have a quick 30 mins on Forza. Game pass is brilliant in that it gives me plenty to play without forking out £50 - 60 for games I will hardly play.

Just my thoughts as an older gamer with very little spare time

I’m also 42 and a similar situation. The improved loading does make that quick go when you can more doable. I’m also very impressed with the system have not really touched my laptop since the series x arrived.

Just installed the quality mode feels horrible after playing most of the game in 4k60 no idea what it adds visually as it looks the same to me....

Probably switched from high to ultra. I can never tell the difference.

Shame they've had to switch down this early with the new consoles to get improved graphical features.

Lot of us 42 year olds

I don't have kids, and have time for gaming but have mostly been focusing on photography the last few years.

This year has got me back into gaming, especially to see me through this winter. Unfortunately, battling depression has messed up my ability to control some things lately - like frivolous spending.

My Dell S2721DGF just arrived. I'll set that up and give the Series S a whirl tonight.

I hope it doesn't make me want to get a second Series X though!

Spotted a post about Retroarch and Dev Mode on Reddit. Just watching a video about it on YouTube now and... wow. MVG are showing it off on Series S and it's pretty impressive. Not sure I can link it here? But seeing classic games running at 4K on a £249 console is amazing. Together with the native BC stuff, it turns the new Xboxes in to the ultimate retro gaming machines.

The 7x's do work with both Xbox and PS5. The usb c dongle comes with a USB A to USB C cable. Yes there is a DTS app in the Xbox store, it's reduced at the moment, I bought both Atmos and DTS headphones apps the other day.
