advise needed: installing a bike lift pulley

So I am planning on fitting one of these pulleys in the living room.
I have never drilled into the ceiling before, is there anything I should be aware off before giving it a go?
Its not actually going to be used for a bike, its to mount an old ladder for my wifes indoor garden.

Find the ceiling joists first if you can. I use small magnets on my walls which locate the plasterboard screws. You know you have a stud or a rafter as you will have a long line of them in the same places.

And they should be at 400m /16" centres, so find one, you can measure to get the rest

Thanks for the tips, I think I bought some sort of device to find the joist, but it didnt inspire confidence when it arrived so I ended up getting shelved. I'm guessing the chandelier is probably attached to a joist, so I should be able to try and work from there, figure out which way the joists are laid.
