Infrared heating panels, anyone here have any experience of them?

Currently having a home office built in the garden and its been recommended I look into these opposed to a storage heater type solution.

Any input appreciated.

No they are too expensive for what they are your be better off buying a cheap oil filled rad and pocketing the difference towards your electricity bill, or buying a split unit which are far more efficient than any other electric heater.

Infrared take for ever to heat up a space, they are designed as warmers for flesh rather than heaters for a space.

Install a wood burner or get a decent 3-5kwh oil filled as others have said.

Regardless of the type, all electric radiators use the same amount of power (£), for the same amount of heat output.

A £250 1000w glass infrared radiator won't cost any less to run than an £30 oil filled radiator.

A bunch of marketing hype really. Heat is heat and it doesn't matter how it reaches you. All hot bodies emit heat radiation and some convection occurs. No particular way is cheaper. I really do think it's just a fad because they look different to conventional radiators. Certainly they can't justify their extra cost. There is a lot of rubbish in the heating an ventilation trade. A lot of sales smoke and mirrors.

They do have their place, where it is impractical to convection heat a space, like an industrial building they give the feeling of warm to those working there. So they aren't heating the air they are heating you. Expensive for what it does, insulation is a good first place to start then as said a nerby heat source that is convecting and radiating like an oil filled radiator.

Eh? Once up to temperature an oil filled radiator cycles on and off, only drawing power when the thermostat turns on and the hot oil continues the distribute heat while switched off. An infra red panel will only direct heat at someone while it is switched on, switch off the power and that's it, no heat.

What am I missing?
