If you play on 1080p >144hz I'd say it's worth it. If you play 1440 or 4k 144hz then it's not really worth it. You'd gain a few % performance, if any.

The received wisdom is it's not really worth the upgrade if you aren't also increasing core count. I'm mostly GPU constrained on an overclocked 2600 with a 5700xt, so I dont think 3600 -> 5600 will help you much. The 8 or 12 core chips would be a good upgrade for your code compiling.

I would stick with what you have unless you are very real CPU limitations. AMD hasn't launch its full range yet,and Intel will launch some new CPUs next year too. So perhaps by 2022,we might have some decent deals on a Ryzen 7 by then.

Its worth it.
anyone saying different dont understand how powerful the new cpu from amd is.
Naturally you also have to consider resolutions, ram, graphics card to make a good fit.
at 1440p there is a 10%+ difference and better low end fps drops cases.
at 1080p it can be a 40-50fps difference for games with a cpu upgrade alone.

I am awaiting the new cpus to be in the local stores as I like to buy them from local business to support them. I am still debating to upgrade to the 5600x or 5800x still from my 3600.
Its likely if I buy the 6800 big navi that it be the 5600x due to the cost of the 6800 here.
and I play at 1440p.
(really dont need to upgrade but was a plan 3 years ago to do so :)

Had to google that word. Yeah I'm quite happy with it. I might get rid of my 3700x in favour of it.
It's also 1000 points better on firestrike than the 3700x
What do use the system for? gaming or?
since you already own a 3700x, would you say it’s worth paying extra £120 to upgrade the 3700x to 5600x (for 1440P gaming use)?

Yeah I only use it for gaming. It would depend on your GPU I think. £120 is quite a premium to pay. I did the swap for £50 which I'm happy with ( not counting the fact I had to buy a new board )

What resolution you game on?
My case is a unique situation, there is £120 price difference if I opt for 5600x over 3700x
my GPU is RTX 3080
I have no use / real need for that £120 but still don’t want to “waste” it if there is no meaningful improvements.also the core downgrade feels wrong.

I wouldn’t bother, if anything wait until this time next year when the 5000 series will have had lots of price cuts and new variants and get a bargain 5900x or the like. I don’t see what you have to gain currently, it’s not like your system would be struggling to play anything that a 5600 would miraculously fix.

Im still toying with the idea of upgrading to a 5600x from my 3600 non x. First drop of the BIOS update for my board is out so may wait a few months then grab a 5600x but im thinking i'll grab the 5600x and run it out until AM5 and Ryzen 6000 chips in 2022

I have seen a number of reviewers conclude that the 5600x is the prefered option over the 36xx based on the fact there is no real hint of the 5600x restricting frame rates, suggesting that it will future proof you to an extent over future Gfx upgrades. This is only in the context of buying new though, ie, you are building a new system, should you buy a 3600x or 5600x. In your situation upgrading from the 3600x, the perceived "value" would be much harder to see, especially right now. No doubt the the 5600x is faster at everything, but Personally I would hold out and then go for a bigger step up (5800x/5900x) in the future (and hopefully the prices have all calmed down).
