Aren't you best getting in touch with a local college? I've not heard of any coding apprenticeships myself but my o/h that works at a college assures me they do apprenticeships is almost anything these days.

Do you have any experience at all? You may get lucky with a junior position if you can prove your ability.

I'm on a coding boot camp course now so looking into apprenticeships for after, junior position would be even better. I've reached out to my local college and uni, but most places seem to be taking applications for late 2021 at the earliest now. Thanks for your help

What technologies is your coding boot camp using?

Check out BT apprenticeships. I went through the Cyber Security Apprenticeship and for the most part, has been brilliant.

I know they have hubs in Skelmersdale and Manchester, so throw in an application anyway (it says Bristol/ Ipswich, but if they like you, they'll make room).

What languages/technologies do they teach?

Entirely depends on which course you go for and what team you join. The general software development teams tend to stick with front-end development, so you should fit right in.
If you go into the security development teams, you will likely be faced more with Python, Ruby and Perl (Ruby and Perl are Legacy, but we need to deal with them).

The security teams will likely be full-stack developers (there are fewer of them), whereas the general software development teams will have teams specialising in a certain areas.

Sounds great. I'll look into it. What's the pay while training?

I only have the information from when I started in 2016, so things may have changed.
You start at £15k (this has gone up since, but not sure by how much). You then get an up-to 10% yearly performance payrise based on the band you are placed in (if the band is £40k, you will get a £4k payrise). When you assimilate, you then get put at 90% of the band (£36k if the band is £40k).

However, the programme is quite strict as it is government funded. If you fail to do your apprenticeship work, university work or day job to a satisfactory level, you can be let go.

I think I prefer government funding, I'd probably feel less tied to the company that trained me. Are you working for bt now?
