Is a NAS the solution for my needs?

Never had a NAS before, very much a noob to it all, but it seems this is the solution for what I need. Looking for a networked solution, something I can access remotely, for files, video and photos. I work with a lot of BIG files (ProRes video etc.), large Photoshop files etc. so needs to be fast and reliable. Budget not necessarily an issue, but nothing crazy, under £500 ideally.

Does it really matter in terms of brand/drives, or are they much of a muchness these days? Everything I'm looking at always has the odd bad comment, but nothing really stands out as a 'bad' choice. Is there a go-to option for ease of use though? I see Synology mentioned a lot. I need at least 10TB, but more if possible.

Any advice much appreciated.

So you need to quantify 'fast' and 'reliable'.

Do you want redundancy in the storage?

Do you want HDD or SSD speed, or raid speed?

What speed is your network? Or will you use over WiFi?

What are your physical space requirements?
