My son's currently gaming on the following system :-

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
Nvidia 1060 6gb
Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-AB350-GAMING 3
Team T-Force Dark Pro 16 GB DDR4-3200
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB
Corsair RM750i
Gamemax F15M
1080P on a 4k Hisense R43B7120 TV

Potentially looking to upgrade the CPU or GPU or both depending on funds, looking at a 3700X or similar, and a 2060 or better GPU

Is it worth upgrading the CPU, or would a GPU upgrade give more gains? Thanks.

If you update the BIOS that board should take a R5 3600 nicely, if you can find one at a decent price that'd be the first thing to upgrade, the GPU isn't great but prices are all kinds of screwed up right now. MM might have a decent GPU for a decent budget however.

That first gen Zen CPU is definitely outdated in gaming performance, besides only 4 threads being too little to avoid hiccups from running out of "workers".

Both upgrades will be bought second hand, the current system is all made that way, just keeping an eye out for non existent bargains! ;)

Thank you, I'm thinking 8 cores and 16 threads should see him through for a while yet.

I have the same mobo and processor (2200G).

was built 2 years ago as a starting point for my sons PC but now he is playing different games a better processor is required.

Already passed on my AMD R9 390 8GB gpu on to him to use instead of the onboard one but still a 4 core 4 thread processor still holds it back in performance.

tempted to get either a 2600/3600 for him or a 2700\3700 range

Updated daughters 2200g to a 1700 had on the auction site for 90 quid, paired with a 1080 for 200 notes its beasty system. The 1700 while lacking gaming punch is still a cheap solid cpu with lots of the threads which will outlast any 4 core 8 thread i7

Thanks again for the replies, 2700 or 3600 look to be the sweet spot for an upgrade if I can find one at a decent price. ;)
OCUK have the 3600 at 199.99 at the moment, was 219.99 which changed today.

lowest I have seen the 3600 for is £190, seen a 2700 for £180 new.

I have been looking around for the last few weeks to see if there is any deals about

I've just agreed to trade my 2200g + £100 for a 3600, seems like a decent deal to me, and hopefully a good upgrade too, thanks again for the replies.

Cool but make sure you update the motherboard bios or check what version you have to see if supports the 3600. Dont want ro exchange cpu's and then realise yhe bios needs updating.

Well I just bought a 3600 from ocuk as they have dropped £40 in the last few weeks.

they are now £178.99 which is the cheapest I’ve seen them so far
