A Golf R was trying to play around some roundabouts, both pulled onto the motorway. My car was faster than his but he was driving like a **** so I backed off, he finally pulled out of the way, I pootled past and he literally pulls into the side of me. I jump on the brakes, back end lifts etc a lot of poo came out managed to avoid him and the barrier.

Didn’t go above 60 the whole way home.

Begs the question, what were you driving?

And the description of the R’s driving style fits.... :D

It's kinda sad that mine is in a boring works van at normal speeds.

On the a465, between merthyr and gilwern, in a brand new empty Mitsubishi l200. Driving at 5 am in December, seen the gritters out so driving sub 60 mph and I hit a massive track of black ice. Unweighted back end decides it wants to lead, so end up spinning down the duel carriage way with the lightest steering in the world until I hit the bank on the side.

Let's just say I wasnt the only one, after I phoned the police I was joined by atleast 5 other cars two that had slammed into the central reservation l.

That sounds very similar to mine! I was coming up the M6 in the early hours of the morning in deep winter years ago in my old Ford Escort. I'd passed a couple gritters but didn't really think anything of it. I moved out to the third lane to overtake a truck and a car and as I was coming back across just completely lost traction and spun back across all three lanes. Somehow I didn't hit either the car or the truck and ended up parked perfectly in the hard shoulder facing the wrong way, narrowly missing the barrier. I did a 180 back onto the motorway then pulled off at the next services to clean my trousers!

My one and only brown trouser moment. Back in 2010, bad winter it was -17degC first thing in the morning, heading into Aberdeen on the dualie and was overtaking somebody, just I was changing back into the inside Lane it must have just been hitting a cats eye that was enough to put the car into a slow spin, managed to catch it but was now heading down the road across both lanes at 90 degrees at 60 mph.

Gingerly straightened it up and “nothing to see here” continued on.

2010. That was the last bad winter we had. I was driving back from Glasgow late afternoon with a mate, when it started to snow. North of Dundee the conditions had worsened and snow was much heavier. By the time we reached Stonehaven we were down to one lane on the dualer with a six foot plus snow bank either side. It really did look like a tunnel - a car’s width wide- carved into the snow.

There was a car or two in front and similar behind us. It was whiteout levels of snow fall now, so all we could see were the lights of the car in front and behind. The road surface was so poor that if i accelerated the front wheels spun, if I tried to break however I would have slid into the car in front, the snow bank or been hit by the chap behind. It was very much white-knuckles most of the way. Made it home eventually, in one piece. Had a stiff drink that night.

That Saab 95 was my first 350bhp+ FWD experience and the last.

I bet that was a 5p, 50p brown eye moment. :o

Dash cam wide angle always make the movement look far less than it actually is. I’ve got a lovely one of me losing the back end leaving an island at 23mph. Looks virtually insignificant from the footage but it actually had some good angle to it :D

Hey up mate <0/

Yeah I thought the same when I saw that, I remember going very sideways at a decent speed in my m3, couldn't wait to show the lads in the office my brush with death. It looked almost identical to MRK's gif, the 50p poo stain told a different story

Oh there were no stains let me tell you that! Can't risk marking my leather :p

I simply left the situation to be dealt with by the DSC gods in that instance and yep, the angle of the car was much more than what the wide angle footage seems to show otherwise  - You can see the exact moment DSC stepped in and said "no you actually want to be going this way, you're welcome" :D It genuinely felt like a big hand came down from the sky and tapped the back end back into going forwards.

I used to rely on DSC for everything, after hitting the standing water in my zed and once previously in a 1 series, I can assure it can't save you from everything. I'm guessing there is only so much brakes and computers can do if you are floating on water :p

Not car related but I'd say pretty much 2 or 3 occasions a week for two years after a passed my direct access motorcycle test and jumped straight on to a 130 horsepower superbike at age 26 were equally close.

I am still, to this day amazed that I survived those first 2 years without a serious accident. There were more close calls than I could even begin to remember and I would say 95% of them were purely down to my own stupidity... I'm glad things are stricter now for all the parents out there.

This bike will always be special to me for getting me through those 2 years without coming off:
