I know it's overkill, but's what's it like gaming with the 5950X, any issues? And what's the all core boost like whilst gaming, my 3900X currently boosts to around 4.2Ghz?

It's amazing in Cyberpunk, it's nearly fully loading 15/16 Physical Cores; and it's around 4.5Ghz for me.

CPU usage in the spot in the screenshot.

ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO WI-FI

Anyone got this board, and had there 5900x work straight away? Or will i need to do a bios update?
I picked up the none WiFi version from OC just before Xmas with a 5900x, had a cheap 3000 series delivered just in case (coming from a i7 980x :/) noticed a 5000 series ready sticker on the mobo box, assumed they meant actually ready and not ready after using a different chip and a bios update :D so gave it a go and it was fine. Have since updated to bios 3003.

Whats everyones idle temps? I seem to idle around 40/50 degrees? Is this normal? My peak temps get to about 75/80 while under load.
idle 35c - 40c with 24c room temp and 80c max.

I'm getting around 40 degrees idle and 80 underload with something like Cinebench. I have noticed higher temps under gaming even under small durations, sometimes spikes of 90 degrees.

Planning to see what I can do to bring them down to be honest as a little high for my liking. No overclock, or PBO only bios change is to DRAM frequency and timings

Around 35-40c
Gaming tends to hit 60-65c,

PBO + custom motherboard voltages & curve optimiser giving 4.5ghz MT & 5ghz+ ST

This is with a custom water loop.

Would i be mental if i was looking at a 5900x/5950x for a pure gaming build at 3440x1440/4k and have it with a 6800xt/3080. It will be the last big full system upgrade ill be doing for 5+ years due to some expensive plans that need to come first..after the new system of course.

You could potentially go 5600X and put the difference towards a 3090 if gaming at that res? If not I see nothing mental about getting a 5900x for gaming. 5950x maybe a bit unnecessary now but would also hold you in better stead with that length of planned time until your next upgrade. 5900x would probably be fine too though tbh, as long as you don't expect blistering performance still in 5 years time.

Good points made. Im thinking of getting the 5950x as its the last am4, and i have been excited about getting a ryzen cpu since first announcement. I know its silly money for a cpu to game on but its my main hobby and the idea of having a top cpu in my system will make me feel better that i wont have to worry about changing it for a while.

Btw, for those with MSI Unify x570, the newer Beta Bios changed a little bit the steps ... where I was doing -10 now I'm doing -21!

So now, my strongest cores are at -21, my second strongest at -26, and all the others at -30.

Also, PBO Power Limits are broken, and can't change them to "motherboard" or editing them manually. I mean, you can, but the output will always be the same as you were with Auto selected.
