I have finally been able to bag a Ryzen 5 5600x for a decent price (£280) and arrives tomorrow. Now I'm on the hunt for a motherboard to go along with this. I was hoping to get something in the £70 - £100 range. Along with this processor I will have a 1080ti, 1x NVMe, 2x SSD and 1x HDD.

I don't need PCIe gen4 or more than 1 NVMe, and do very little overclocking.

I was looking at a MSI Gaming Plus Max AMD X470 AM4 for £70 but have heard very mixed reviews of cheap end MSI. Would this be a good board to get? What are the alternatives around this price range?

I'm in a similar situation, almost bought the 3600 but bought the 5600x instead for the 280 also. Now looking at cost cutting on the mobo as ive over spent elsewhere.

I looked at the B450 tomo but can get mid range MSI B550 PRO at £135 for a little more and then i find myself at the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus at £159 and now im at the over spending mark. Prob prefer the PCIe 4 for maybe a future upgrade.

There is the B450m mortar max which I'm using and it has very good VRMs and very well reviewed, no problems with it - it now has 5000 ryzen support @ £95. You could get Overclockers to update the BIOS for you.
