Hi all,
  • What I want: to ensure I'm getting the best from my headphones
  • How I use them: gaming, music, films
  • Which headphones do I own: Grado SR60e and Koss Porta Pro
  • How I connect them: direct to my motherboard (Aorus B450i Pro)
  • Budget: I'm just exploring whether I'm missing out as I'm a noob - but lets say up to £100
Am I missing out on drastically better sound?

For that budget pick up a refurbed sound blaster G6 off their website. They come up all the time for around £60. You won’t get anything nearly as good without spending at least double.

Can do better than grado sr60 for not much money these days i've owned a pair very midrangy warm sound but grainy harsh treble, basically 2 minature speakers strapped to your head.

Philips Fidelios or akg's, beyer dynamics range in the just over £100 area, would be a nice step up from sr60, sr60 will always have their place for that warm midrangy good rock sound though.

But in terms of a soundstage upgrade any of the above would be a big leap over sr60 for gaming movies etc

I'd be upgrading the headphones before source myself with your spec, ideally upgrade both.
Grados always still sell so could sell them to help fund an upgrade.

A £30 sound card will sound better than onboard.
