all whilst not having an issue with the other British drivers who left these shores to live in Monaco or Switzerland for the same reasons.

I don't think anyone has any issues with other drivers. It's more to do with a few users taking the actual facts and then conjuring up a story of how the HMRC had a grudge and attempted to prevent someone getting a knighthood whilst at the same time continuously deflecting when anyone attempts to explain the actual truth.

It's even more bizarre when it's all moot as he's getting one.

A better discussion would be - "Does Hamilton deserve his knighthood?".

There will be dozens if not hundreds of celebrities and chums of the government that have foreign bank accounts or mostly conduct and register their business abroad that have been given peerages, MBE's, CBE's Damehoods etc. and very little is said about them, but as soon as Lewis's name comes up suddenly some people get a bee in their bonnet and it's an issue. I just don't get why he's suddenly to be made an example of. Well, I do for some people!

You mean like the faux-rage and conspiracy theory from yourself and @cu3ed :p

Even though he's one of the highest tax payees in the UK? Why did Jackie get a knighthood?
No one seemed to complain too much when Sean Connery got his and he stayed in the Caribbean for decades. Could there be another reason.......?

Sean Connery was knighted in the year 2000. Jackie Stewart was knighted in the year 2001. And still people are using this as some sort of argument as to why in 2020 we must talk about them if we dare mention yesterday's knighted person, Lewis Hamilton. Talk about clutching at straws. I'm sure if they were knighted this year we'd be having the exact same discussions about them. but hey ho they weren't. Deal with it.

Why are you still implying racism has anything to do with this? Where is your basis for such slanderous remarks? I think this is the 3rd time I've seen you make a little sly comment about it.

When your are Lewis Hamilton and you never decide to clear up all the tax stories about yourself, you move to Switzerland and Monaco since 2007 and also have been found to use shell companies to avoid paying £3.3million of VAT on his private jet. Why is he contracted to Mercedes via a Guernsey company? You can understand where the questioning about his tax status and whether he deserves a knighthood is raised. The almost blind defence of him is bizarre.

Minimising tax is legal, pretty much every person of any monetary worth hires an accountant/team to help them do this.
One of my old clients was a company who specialised in helping high net worth customers reduce their tax burden (as well as help with investments/wealth management). They are very good at it, do it all above board with all the (legal) tricks of the trade and their customers pay a healthy sum for the priveldge.
Until he is doing anything illegal, it's a non-story.

Tax doesn't seem like a non-story in most people's eyes.

Jimmy Carr legally paid minimal tax. Pretty sure when you're earning that much and paying a pittance in tax then the public soon turn on you. There's the legal obligation and then there's the moral expectation. Don't want to contribute fairly? then don't expect the public to take kindly to you.

No one likes paying tax, we all want to pay less given the chance, and these individuals have likely paid more tax then you or I ever will.

It is also quite likely these high net worth individuals contribute to the economy significantly more than you or I by running businesses, hiring people, paying salaries and not to mention charitable donations.

However it seems most people are either ignorant of how the system works, or just plain jealous of other people's success. It's the beauty of capitalism, be good at your job, work hard, earn well.

Trust me, if you are doing something not above board, HMRC will screw you over, wether you did it on purpose or not.

Awwww, here we go again...

2021 Australian GP rumoured to be postponed given new local Covid restrictions. In effect, every member of staff of all teams entering the country would need to be held in a 2 week quarantine before the event, which is unworkable given the timescales between winter testing and the first race. Nothing officially confirmed yet, but it's not looking hopeful.

It seems Bahrain on March 28th will end up being the first race.

Why did you see it coming?

The loss of Riccardo would have hurt, and although they haven't been at the front of the grid, they have been improving each year, with the opportunity to a leap up with the new regs, and Fernando back.

Because he has done jack **** since being there.
Who wants to count the engine fails?

But Renault now have a great guy who will be missed in Motogp.

Surprised to see Cyril leave completely; he was slated to take over the Alpine business unit as a whole wasn't he?

Renault this season are in a much better place than they have been for years now; probably since the Lotus-Renault season of 2013 so he's clearly helped them progress.
