On a compeditors site today I had a Gigabyte eagle 3070 8gb OC card in my basket for £620 but i just couldnt bring myslef to buy it. As ive saved up £800 and really want an 3080. But i was sorely tempted, i must say. Having missed out this week again for a 3080 FE and i was so close it still had add to basket but when i did it said gone. The 8 gig puts me off the 3070 and i want to try gaming in native 4K on my LG CX Oled, not sure if 3070 is a good choice. So the wait goes on. My Power color 5700XT is doing a good job at 1440p and looks great on the CX but id love a 30 series card like everyone else or even a AMD 6000 series. Its very frustrating and watching for constant false alarm alerts is doing my head in.

Yes i think your right. Its confusing to know if your getting a deal or ripped off its totally mad. Ive seen cards at wildly differing prices on all sites for the same sku. It is a total mine field out there at moment.

It is a difficult one - I had to be pretty disciplined with the itch to upgrade - but I held out until I managed to get a 3070FE personally - anything over £550 max for a 3070 is taking the **** regardless of market circumstances, etc.

If the card had more than 8GB VRAM it would have been harder to resist as well - but I just couldn't justify spending more than £500 or so on a card with 8GB now and even that I'm not completely happy about.

You already have a great card and some people skip a generation of GPUs before they upgrade. As you want to game at 4k don't worry if you don't get a 3080, there are already reports that some games can use more than 10G vram at 4k. I understand that the media is reporting that Nvidia 4000 series has in theory up to around a 70% increase in performance. I can see people who play at 4k wanting to dump their 3080 when the 4000 series is out. I would say that the 3070 isn't a good enough upgrade if you are set on trying 4k gaming and want to keep the card for a few years

I hear what you say and it makes a lot of sense. It would be prudent to just give up and wait for next gen of Nvidia cards, but im not sure if its anywhere near on the horizon. Maybes 4000 series 2 years away?

I understand that the best guess for the 4000 series is late next year. If you are set on a 3000 series then the latest media reports suggest that there will be a 3080 with more vram around Sept. 2021, so having to wait might be the best outcome for you. Nvidia today announced that the 3060 has 12G vram, so more than the current 3080!

I think i would be able to wait it out i guess. They say patience is the key. I might just turn off the alerts and wait it out and see what develops over the year. Im getting tired of this insane game. :)

Couldn't stomach paying £600+ for a 3070 when thats 3080 MSRP territory - not a small performance gap between them either.

I'd try grab a 3080 FE for £650 or an AIB under 800.

You did the right not to buy RTX 3070. Forget about all rubbish alerts from StockDrops, StockRadar, Part Alerts etc that did my head in. Then I joined UK Stock Alert and grabbed MSI RTX 3080 Suprim X in less than day, I found UK Stock Alert the best with fastest notification pushed out.

You can grab MSI RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio right now for £780. Or Palit RTX 3080 GameRock for similar price 1 day ago.

Absolutely. The 3070 is a decent card, but it's not worth much over £500 IMO. The FE hasn't been that hard to get relative to the 3080 FE either, so long as you're signed up for alerts of drops.

You did the right thing.

3070 is a capable card.

@ 4k the GDDR6x memory has benefits at high resolutions so a 3080 is a great card for 4k.

You were lucky on a 3070 today but, persevere for the 3080.

@ 4k, whilst a great card, is still a minimum for 4k.

£620 for a 3070?

If you gonna spend some 'inflated' price for our hobby. At least spend the uplift on the 3080, particularly as you have a +£1100 awesome TV to run native!

I'd rather pay £850 for a 3080 than I would a £650 for a 3070.

Wish I'd just typed the last sentence.

You made the right decision IMO.

Personally I think one would have to be bonkers to pay £600+ for an 8GB card in 2021.

Especially when the 3080FE is significantly more powerful and has a more reasonable (though still a bit tight) 10GB for £649, although rarer than Unicorn poop.

If it doesn't feel right then it's not. I had a 6800XT in my basket last week for £890, something was telling me not to check out but I went ahead anyway after a bit of dithering. By the time I'd got to enter payment details the retailer had bumped the price to £940 and I bailed. It's not that I couldn't afford it, it just felt wrong to me and the 50 quid bump confirmed it.

£620 for a 3070 is a joke by the way. Manufacturers and retailers are having everyone's pants down with these retarded prices.
