My thoughts are everyone will be disappointed when it arrives as a bog standard Renault 5 successor and not a Renault 5 Turbo successor.
Agreed. I dont think it will be a 'performance car' at all.

Isn't there a tie-in here with Alpine? That's certainly what the PH article suggests. My guess is there will be a performance variant, but it'll be badged as an Alpine.Agreed. I dont think it will be a 'performance car' at all.
Difference is, it does have an element of Honda E about it in the side profile. Unlike a certain other small car that may or may not also be in your post.
There doesnt seem to be any hot hatch EVs. Maybe it cant be packaged in a small car :\
Next Corsa VXR I think I read somewhere
Problem with it being a 'Hot Hatch' is that the more you give it in an EV the more the range drops off a cliff and also due to battery weight you can't "reduce weight and add aero" as TurboToaster once famously uttered.
It will be a run of the mill EV but it does look a little similar to the 5GT but as it's a concept it'll probably lose the looks and just become another uninspired drab EV, got a feeling in the future all the cars will be primer grey to stop people getting excited over cars
