Oh that reminds me I got banned from a video hosting site from someone who shall remain nameless they posted live video performances but removed them after a time iirc I used some software to download a permanent copy and they banned me straightaways - actually paid a subs for the darn thing as well. Could have done a chargeback I guess but oh well let the man have his money.

I was banned from here for posting a Jesus "thanks for the info" pic, if I remember correctly. There was also an "effective ban" which has since been graciously overturned. I've been banned from 4chan more times than I can remember.

As for permanent bans? I can't think of any.

It's actually not that hard, depending on what board you post on. For instance, if you start a topic on the technology board with a subject which the admins don't consider 'tech enough' they'll ban you, e.g. if you make a tech/politics post which is more political than technical they'll delete the topic and then ban you for 24 hours or so. The type of board you get banned from says a lot about the content that was worthy of said ban. Of course you can get banned for far worse than that, but it's all relative.

How far back are you going on 4chan? When moot started it after being thrown out of SA or more recently? 2003 seems like a long time ago now.

I got banned from here for slipping up on the mm rules a few times (whoopsie) thankfully it got overturned after asking politely.

The mm rules are very strict which is a good thing otherwise people would take the cake.

But the best one was when I questioned the hypocrisy of decrying the Twitter Trump ban as an attack on free speech, while holding a zero tolerance policy for "commies" (not actual communists, but anyone who doesn't agree with the TDW worldview) on their own site. They banned me for the post

Reading that somebody got murdered has anybody on here ever been threatened with physical violence because of something said on forums?
I've had it 3 times where it has been quite scary but one of them lived very close to me and knew exactly where I lived and where I would be gigging because all the details were online.
He'd even say stuff like "Be careful Saturday night just as you're getting in your car to come home from The Gardeners Retreat so I had quite a period where I was continually looking over my shoulder.

I'm talking about over the years in general, I first found the place in 2006. But, like many forums [this one included], one never really leaves online communities, one just takes extended sabbaticals.

4chan did have its time, I'd agree with that. Original content is debatable as most of the posters, including the owner, moot, were banned from SA and took a lot of their material from there but even SA is now in it's own hilarious yet depressing legal come-down so in summary, welp

I have noticed, since I came back to this place recently, that the mods don't act with anything like the level of tyranny that they used to. There seems to be much more respect for the users. It's a reflection of contemporary society in a way, inasmuch as workplaces and management styles these days emphasise treating employees like actual people rather than cogs in a machine.
