The stuff with the ref looking at the monitor appears to have just become a bit of face saving theatre for the on field ref.

Video ref looks at it goes "you've got that one wrong mate go look at the screen and change your mind looks like you did it then not me" 9/10 if the ref gets told to go to the screen the decision changes.
