My 14 year old nephew is wanting a new gaming PC will also be used for school work too. I have not built a new PC for many years,so could do with some advice. I have an old ATX case, that I could give him to save some cash, if it can still be used with the newer motherboards and he wants it. He already has screen but wants a second 24" screen, likewise has keyboard and mouse already. Is AMD the way to go for the best bang for the buck these days?
What would be the best bang for the buck spec including the following CPU, Mainboard, GPU, Memory, Storage, PSU, Case and OS please?
Thanks in advance

Intel is now bang for buck.

Right now is not a good time for budget gaming builds.

A 1050 Ti now costs £199.99, that card came out years ago.

I suggest waiting. Unless you can pick up a bargain graphics card 2nd hand.

You can't do it these days. Have a look at gpu pricing and availibility. AMD APU may be a good shout, if they aren't crazy prices?

Are GPU prices likely to drop in about a months time??
TBH Probably not. Chinese new year generally means an almost full shutdown of manufacturing across China for as long as a month in some areas. And with TSMC being tasked to produce silicon wafers for the automotive sector actual manufacturing capacity of the chips is severely curtailed. In all honesty this shortage could last throughout the summer.

Budget increased to £800/850 now. Is intel and their 11th generation still better value than AMD? How well would the integrated GPU work for Fortnite to tide him over till graphics card drop in price/supply increases?

If you have a 11500 or higher, then it's doable at 1080p (the 11400 has less EUs), assuming decent memory that is running in dual channel mode. There's quite a few videos on youtube to show you what it's like.

Still wouldn't bother buying anything at the moment. I put together a £600 machine at Christmas with all new parts apart from a ASUS Strix RX 580GB. Had a 10400f, B460M Mortar, 16GB RGB RAM, 1TB SN550 nvme, Case with 3 RGB fans, 650w psu.
You're better waiting a while longer until things drop (mostly gpus) in price even further. I'd also look into gaming laptops too, I got a great deal on a Legion 5 Pro with a RTX3070, 5800h 8 core, 32GB, 1TB nvme for £1300.

Nows really not the time to be building anything unless you can get cards for msrp which is impossible usually lol

This is probably the best your going to get for that budget right now so not great really but I have seen RTX 3000 series systems start for around 1K.
