Is the 12gb 3060 a worthwhile upgrade over the 6gb 1660?

Good afternoon all,

I am wanting to do 1440p gaming in the near future, with the potential of 3060 coming in stock in the coming days, I wondered if the 3060 would be a worthwhile upgrade over my 1660 or if I should wait for stock of higher end cards to come back?

No one will know for sure until the reviews come out. I don’t think it’ll be as big a generational leap as the cards already released though.

I wouldn't assume you'll be able to buy one on launch, doubt it will take long before someone hacks the drivers so miners get full speed.

I'm sure it will be fine update compared to a 1660 but I'd probably wait for the 3060Ti or better.

they supposed to be around 2070s sorta speed. whether you can get one or not is the real question.

I have just realised that I will be working late on launch day, so it will be a stroke of luck if I do find one. I am not prepared to spend more than £400 on the thing, I may as well wait for a 3060 ti or 3070 and save more.

Rumoured to be $500 for a 3060, which if true means they will be £500 in the uk. Possibly even more on rip off sites like ocuk.

Ridiculous, and actually makes the 3090fe at msrp look like good value!

Surprisingly, I was not able to find one to purchase, and with list prices of £349-£449+ I was quite put off after watching a few reviews!!

So for now, I will take some time to save up for a 1440p monitor (which I might be able to use at lower settings on my 1660) along with a video card sometime by Christmas 2021 or New Years 2022 haha after all, we will probably all be in the same boat until at least the end of this year but I have my eyes set on a 3070 or higher card - maybe the 4000 series cards will be out before any 3070 or higher end cards come back in stock haha.

Maybe wait and see what happens with the rx6700xt when that releases, again, if you can get one for a reasonable price which I don't think you/we will, the bots and scalpers will see to that.
