So did anyone actually get a 3060?

Why would you get a 3060 over a 3060ti?

Assuming you can get either card at MSRP: you know you're going to be gaming at 1080p and you fancy saving £70. It's like a 23% performance increase for 21% more cost on average at that res, so it's better for the Ti but only very slightly. Realistically if you can get either card at MSRP at the moment you're doing pretty well.

The gap does widen in the Ti's favour at higher resolutions, particularly at 4k, but I'd argue if you're gaming at 4K you really actually want the 3080.

I think it's mostly a case of pricing. Most people might be happy to pay £200-300 for a card whereas many will baulk at a near £400 price tag for a midrange-ish card. Whilst you could argue that you get the extra performance for the money you're paying I suspect most people would be happy with the level of grunt offered by the RTX 3060. Particularly if they're gaming at 1080p/1440p/60Hz.

Yes you don't need a high end card for most strategy games and esports, so a 3080 or 6800xt would be much more than you need if you play these sorts of games. Apparently the 60 class of card eg 2060, 3060 sell well to esport cafes in Asia

3060/3060Ti are both mostly 1080p cards IMO. 3060Ti is somewhat decent for 1440p but don't expect to get very high perf in cyberpunk or tomb raider, they are 60hz cards for sure in the demanding stuff and are usually in the 40-50fps range even with those. You need a 3070/3080 for 1440p with a high hz screen if you want that frame rate

Bear in mind that most gamers don't really care about those things like 144Hz+ or having to drop the settings from Ultra to Medium/High detail so long as the game runs acceptably! It's only the hardcore tech forum enthusiast that will worry about that stuff! I certainly don't view something like an RTX 3060 as a 1080p card! For me it's a high end GPU with more than double the performance of what I currently have!

Like myself, many gamers might be running computers that are 2-5 years old with a 970/1060 and want an upgraded GPU to run a certain game. If you're in that situation you may not want to spend £400+ on a GPU when it's more than the value of your entire PC!

THere's a reason the xx60 series has long been NVidia's best selling model and is generally the price/performance sweet spot in their range. For many it's the goto GPU.

The 1080ti was in a different league. An excellent buy as at least they can still be bought for reasonable money.
How much for can they be bought for? As if it is similar to the 3060 performance wise, it might be a better choice to go with the 3060 as performance was neck and neck in that review

The 1080ti is faster in most games and you could get one for £400-£450 mark.

I think if I were to choose between both, the 3060/3060Ti for £299 - £369 and the 1080Ti for £400-£500.
I would go for the 3060, cheaper, similar performance and has all the new features like Ray Tracing.

But at these increased prices of £1,400 on auction sites, I'm out.
