So, not sure im going to get around to building my own rig just yet, with prices as they are and my very limited experience..
So i have a couple of second hand options,
1; ryzen 3 2200g
2; i5 3570k.

Both similar spec and under 250....
Any thoughts....rig will not be used for gaming....

In a pure cpu head to head, the i5 would probably end up ahead, but not by a lot. But the 2200g has a whole lot of advantages. Much better integrated gpu, much newer platform, so loads of upgrade potential.

All things being equal i would get the 2200g

The Am4 platform will give you upgrade options if your needs change so it makes most sense to go that route.

New

You could go intel 10100 quad core h410 motherboard and 16gb of ram for £250.
Not against going intel if it makes more sense...could i run m.2 off the h410 board?

Would get the 10100 over a 2200G myself (don't get the F, no onboard graphics), but if you do go for a 2200G, buy a decent B450 motherboard for future upgrades. The 10100 IGP is a lot weaker than the 2200G, but you could wait for Rocket Lake as the IGP is much more powerful.

The 3570K is a decent CPU, but like said above, the platform is just far too old, it has no upgrade potential and you'd be buying DDR3.
