LtMatt, thanks for the info.

I did my research, minus the fans, that's why i wanted the XFM for it's air cooling.

I watched this video on the breakdown of the XFX PCB, by a guy who is quite a good electical engineer. XFX have done a really good job with good quality gear on the PCB.

Cheers, I'll have a watch of that shortly. :)

I noticed something yesterday. The system was super quiet, compared to having the Radeon VII in it.

I then decided to have a look at the fans on the card, they weren't spinning! I thought "oh no". Checked GPU-Z, 0 RPM?

Started 3Dmark FIRE STRIKE EXTREME to see if fans would spin, Yes they did and still quiet, thank god.

Got 23502, this is paired with a 3950X.

When the system is at idle, the fans on XFX Merc don't spin at the all, mind you the heatsink is massive.
Same on most cards these days as far as I am aware, my old sapphire pulse vega 56 and my current MSI gaming trio do the same. Have to say though these big Navi cards are quiet anyway. I haven't seen mine go above 63C and even when the fans do spin they are very quiet.

Merc is hands down the best air cooler money can buy for Big Navi GPUs, IMO.

Btw, all Big Navi cards have a Zero RPM mode. Fans won't kick in till the GPU reaches around 55c+.

Sapphire have always had this on the nitro+ models going back as far s I can remember! Even the rx470 Nitro+ had 0RPM fans.

you can always disable the zero fan option in the driver if you want. i prefer a really low rpm to 0 rpm :)

First I was like

Then my ban hammer spoke to me and said I'm bored who shall we ban?

And then I was like, hold my beer :D

Can you leave it til Gibbo posts the code in MM please?

:D :p

On a more serious note (rare!), how is the cooling on it? Noisy? Tbf I was going off their previous 'efforts' with AMD cards, they may have sorted themselves out.

Only just arrived this morning, won't get to install until later today.

I'm going off reviews but it seems a beast of a cooler and good noise levels, far better than the 5700XT previously. It should rival the cooling of the MSI Suprim X which is probably the best around at the moment?
