RIP Mondies.

I owned one of the very first ones built. Was about 3 years old when I got it. Drove it for about 5 years. Had a 2.0l petrol engine and no ABS, ABS only became standard about 2 months into production. When it skidded it was like riding a sledge.

I came close to buying a mates ST TDCI is around 2008, decided eventually I really didn't need it and stuck with my Fabia VRS all the way to 2015 and the excellent and child friendly Yeti.

We've had three over the years and they've all been absolutely brilliant cars to drive and endlessly practical. They still look great to this day. It's a shame the MK5 wasn't much of an upgrade.

ITT: Every Mondeo buyer of the last decade

I do remember lusting after the "Focus ST" engined MK4 at Fiesta in the Park 11 years ago or whatever it was.

Owned a Mondy very briefly in my younger days... was away for a week with some mates and I was mid Engine Transplant in my MG. Picked this thing up for £150 and the abuse it took, shenanigans that went on in it and the amount of laughs means the ol' mondy will always be a bit special to me

Came back from the beach to this, all fun and games till I realised they used emulsion... and being scotland, rain was never more than a day or so away.

I never thought I'd say it, but I will miss my Mondeo if I don't get another one.

My company car is due for renewal in April, though I'm expecting them to extend the lease for a bit longer. No idea what will be on the list when I can pick a replacement., but I would be quite happy to have another Mondeo. It's been a solid mile muncher with great load space for all my tools and kit. Apart from the engine it's been better than the 2014 Passat I had in almost everyway, which really surprised me.

I had a MK4.5 Titanium X Sport 2.2 TDCi. Car itself was great - lots of space, comfortable and decent enough spec but it was a crap engine. Even with driving like an old man on long motorway runs, sitting at 60 and being sensible I still struggled to get mpg over the low 40s. It was meant to be 197bhp too but it sure didn’t feel like it as even my previous 161bhp 320D ED felt quicker.

With the right engine though I’m sure I would’ve loved it. As I say the car itself was great, I just made the wrong choice of engine. Even for someone doing lots of motorway miles a year.

I've had a Mk2, Mk3 & Mk4 when I've needed decent but cheap cars to run between after selling my stupidly fast/expensive cars and I've always gone for Mondeos as a first choice because, whilst they are little "bland" for some, they always did the job perfectly adequately with little fuss.

In fact, once my RS6 is gone, I'll yet again be looking at a Mondeo (Mk5 I think) to potter around around in.
