Hi all

my wife has the following pc which we built back in May 2017.

DEFCON 3s - Asus Z170-K - Intel Core i5 6600K @ 4.20GHz - Overclocked Skylake Bundle

Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey (TLGD416G24
Alpenföhn Matterhorn Black CPU Cooler

She mainly plays guild wars 2 and from what I gather it is cpu hungry

what would be a good processor upgrade?

Thanks in advance for your help

Have you got a budget you are aiming for? Older games like GW2 aren't very good at using all the threads on a modern cpu, they tend to perform better with a smaller number of faster corers.
Turning down some of the game settings will obviously help while waiting to upgrade, eg shadows, depth of field

As above.
GW2 doesn't have good multicore support. Your 6600k should be overclocked as much as possible to achieve the highest frame rates.
6600k should be okay for a 4.5GHz-ish overclock on average. But if you bought a 'pre-overclocked' bundle it would probably mean that your 6600k is a lemon and is unable to go any faster, unfortunately.

budget isn’t really an issue, was thinking of just upgrading the processor as rest of pc is fine

any suggestions?

The new i5 11600k looks a decent option right now, pair that with a B560 and some faster memory .

If your not bothered with overclocking then the 11400F only costs £150 and looks like a great CPU for gaming.

The x600 parts from Intel have been surprisingly good over the last two generations. It's funny, historically the x400 parts were the worst in Intel's product stack, now they have some serious price to performance.
