Big bill coming my way with my Cayman (987). The coolant hoses I knew needed renewing after I inspected them last year when doing the air con rads. As the full job involves dropping the front subframe I wasn't up for tackling that on jack stands. They weren't terrible, and weren't leaking yet - but I wanted them doing when I was able to + it was in for it's MOT anyway. This ended up being a bit more work as the bolts onto subframe/coffin arms were seized so we opted to cut through and replace the coffin arms as they were the originals anyway so I'd call it preventative maintenance :p

Unfortunately during the pre MOT inspection the rear brake pipes were found to be pretty shot and would need doing. They actually started leaking on the way to the MOT tester so decision made. I think the same problem occurs on the 986/996/997 as the pipe basically runs up and over the engine and transmission, and replacing with an OE pipe involves removing the engine...

@Scottland - that’s a shame. Out of interest is there an option to bypass the brake lines?

Not bypass but you can either do a cut and join, or replace the pipe with copper/nickel pipes which you can bend into the right places but it involves a bit of contortion to get them where they need to be. From what I've seen most of the Porsche specific indy's quote the engine out and OE part method. Probably could have found somewhere else to take on the work, but I haven't got the time or energy at the moment to faff around with it.

I'd be going for the bend and feed it over the engine method if possible, I'm sure I've seen that mentioned a few places.

I even had a look a while back on the tools needed to make up your own lines and connectors as it could be used for multiple cars if required.

Yeah, there was just no way of getting the spyder. There may be one way, I'm just waiting to hear back from someone.

That said, and obviously I was a bit miffed at first, but the more I think about the manual roof and the club sport tyres, the more I'm coming round to the GTS. The spyder also sits 30mm lower, and with the front splitter I was always worried about speed bumps and the like. This is 20mm lower and a higher front bumper so even that will be close, but doable I think.

Yellow Dials £345
Yellow Dials Chrono £245

Dealer discount was £1,250. Just waiting on quotes for PPF as I want it well protected.

My deposit and order is all done now. Just need to play the waiting game.

Very very nice indeed , apart from the yellow dials :p

I hate seeing all the warning lights on the yellow dials, just looks like a right mess!

I have time to change my mind as I was in two minds about them. Not sure you see the warning lights though do you?

Oh yeah I see the configurator has blanked them out. Think I'll still keep them.

Thanks. Still quite like the coloured dials. Just adds a little extra I think to a rather bland interior. I think most get the red on a red car so I went a little different with the yellow. Knowing boring me I'll end up with black.

I originally had the carbon steering wheel but switched to leather.

The colour is nice, much better than boring black. It's my OCD hating the warning lights being obvious.

I love your spec though, nearly the same as what I've played with, but I wouldn't have lane assist and would have F&R PDC with BU camera.

Buckets are tempting but pricey.

The Mrs has just got another bit of sexy Pork, I'll wash it and get some nice pics up :D

Yeah get the pics up

Porsche slightly changed the spec literally a day after I placed the order. You now get front and rear parking sensors as standard, albeit the base price has gone up to cover for it lol

Not sure on the camera. I have it on the two cars I currently own, and to be honest, I never look at it. The lane assist was mainly because I heard the boxster with the roof up has a pretty big blind spot and is tricky to see what's behind you (Mmmm, maybe I do need that camera).

Don't get the buckets. They look great, but are uncomfortable and a right pain to get in and out.

My 2014 Cayman extended warrenty expires end of may. What is the general consensus on purchasing extended warranty on older cars? Is £700 per year!

I feel a little silly spending so much on warranty on a 6-7 years old car.

I'm not a Porsche owner, but would consider these:

1). Given the car is worth £27k+ and parts/repairs can be quite expensive, get the warranty for a few more years of worry-free motoring and perhaps sell on a bit later.

2). Use the value of your vehicle in a part exchange for a new car, thus having a fresh new warranty to iron out any issues that might come up.

Those are my thoughts, I don't think Porsches themselves are unreliable but age brings up service items (cam belts/chains etc.) and sometimes suspension and other parts start wearing out.

Hope this helps!

£700 is cheap.

Its not just the £700 per year. If you have the extended warranty then the new rules now dictate that all services must be completed by Porsche rather than using good Porsche specialists. So for example my local specialist can service my car next year (major plus break fluid) using genuine parts for £570 vs £1012. Almost half the price.

If I factor in the additional costs of getting the car serviced by Porsche its more like £1000 per year for the extended warranty.

Note I am comparing to a decent trusted indi, not kwik fit!

appetite for risk etc.... only you can decide. the chances are you wont need it (afterall its an insurance product and therefore on avg the house wins) but you could be the lucky/unlucky one who gets paid out for something seriously wallet lightening.

My warranty expires at the end of this month and ive got the same quandry! although ive just had it serviced by an OPC, and im thinking it wont do big miles this year so may well let it lapse until next year when i hope to do some big euro trips. obvs id have to pay for an inspection if i did that, hey ho.

QQ for anyone with a similar car, (Cayenne Mk2 92A 958, but applies to many other models) perhaps @shaank ?

Much to my bemusement it appears that you cannot reset the service indicators from the car itself, you need to plug a device in to do this. I have seen recommendations for a device called a "CResetter II" on rennlist. People seem to use these on the 958, 981, 997, etc - does anyone here have experience with these or any pointers to any other recommended devices to do this? The Cresetter II appears to be only available to the UK via aliexpress - not sure i particularly want to use that place if i can help it!

Yup, my local porsche specialist has a similar device and a porsche forum recommended that exact model you mentioned as the best thing to have!
