Driving 11 years:

Mk4 Fiesta 1.25? wrote it off the first time I ever drove a car alone. I didn't crash, but did learn that engines require oil, and definitely do not normally sound like that.
Mk5 Fiesta 1.25
Mk7 Fiesta 1.6
Mk7.5 Golf GTD 2.0

For someone who likes cars, I've had an extremely conservative ownership history... I'm too sensible for my own good.

I will have been driving ten years this August. I'm constantly looking at cars I'd like to buy (I am right now), but...

'99 Peugeot 306 HDI Dturbo - First car and drove it for two and a half years, but bought it a year or so before passing my test. Covered just over 50,000 miles in it and it was utterly dependable.
'04 BMW 330d Sport - Bought it in 2014 and still have it now. I've covered just over 90,000 miles in it and apart from right at the start of ownership when I had the swirl flaps removed and front suspension arms changed by a friendly mechanic it has never spent a day off the road.

That is it for me :p

I really liked my 95 Aero, very comfortable and great for cruising up and down the country. I would have had another if Saab hadn’t gone down the toilet. RIP.

It is a shame they never got their Insignia based estate out in time. A few LHD examples made it out but we are talking only a handful. 330BHP 4x4 estate would have been something different to have between your typical German brands.

I wouldn’t be looking at a Ford with those other two on the list.
FK8 type R? Colour?

Think the new Fiesta punches well above its weight. It's an absolute hoot to drive. I'd do some light mods including a map which should see around 240bhp. Love the civic but when it comes to it I don't know if I'd be willing to stump up an extra 10k over the fiesta for one. If I was to go for the Civic sonic grey or artic blue.

The Civic is the best FWD car ever made IMO.
Couldn’t own one where I live, too much unwanted attention.
I’m not a fan of the blue oval.
Only fords I like are classics.

It was borderline mechanically indestructible, but completely rotten. Blue velour interior. Hammered the absolute knackers off it everywhere, like pretty much all of my cars actually.

Mine was blue, C plate.
It looked smart, interior smart.
Felt woolly on corners, I never took to it.
Honda 12V engine though.

You brought up your teenage daughter. Merely commenting.

It's true, the kids love them. I'm almost 50. Nothing wrong with my taste in cars, a Fiesta ST would be about the last thing I would want.
I admire the dynamics of the CTR in the same way you do the Fiesta, but in all honesty out of the 3 I would probably choose the I30N (fastback).

I've yet to drive the i30n but have a feeling I'll like it. Only thing is that it holds a bit of an awkward price point for me, fair bit more expensive than the ST and only a couple K cheaper than the CTR.

I've always thought it a bit of a shame that people write of cars for the supposed image. If you like a car and find it fun / exciting to hell with what anyone else thinks I say.
