Looking for some advice re. a drill/driver for DIY use. Have just bought a house, and have a massive list of man jobs to work through so will likely get a fair bit of use over the next few years.

Have been looking up to/around £200, cheaper obviously preferable.

So far, I like the look of these two:

199 DeWalt : https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d...ck/362jt#product_additional_details_container
191 Einhell: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/einhell-power-x-change-combi-drill--impact-dri/

DeWalt is obviously a more premium brand, has 2x4ah batteries and a hard case.
Einhell is a less premium brand, but OTOH that makes buying other tools from the range more appealing. I get a 4ah and a 2ah battery, so lower capacity, but that also means lighter - and the charger included is a fast charger.

Currently leaning Einhell - anybody got any experience with them? I couldn't find anything brushless from Makita in the price range, but is there anything else I should be looking at?

At that price, get the DeWalt. It's not even a discussion.

That Einhell is not worth the asking price, its lower spec, lower power, isn't brushless, smaller batteries and is a budget tier brand.

If you really want to go down the budget route, buy an Aldi/Lidl one for half that price.

Dewalt, no brainer. As someone posted in another thread, you can get battery adaptors to other eco-systems. The Einhell seems less popular but there is solid Dewalt to Ryobi adaptor, and a less solid Dewalt to Einhell adaptor (ebay link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-adapter-for-Einhell-18v-tool-/274581207235)

Einhell is brushless: https://www.einhell.co.uk/shop/en-uk/te-cd-18-li-i-brushless-solo.html

It also has a metal chuck and fast charger, where as the DeWalt does not.

Am I not comparing a low end model from a premium brand with a high end model from a budget brand? Are they really as chalk and cheese as you make out?

Not trying to ignore advice, just not really sure what specs I should be looking at as they both looked similar to me. Appreciate you taking the time to help, thank you!

No problem! I was going off the machine mart product page which doesn’t say it’s brushless (or it’s not obvious). Full disclaimer, I own the dewalt and would have zero hesitation to buy again.

The Dewalt isn’t low end, it’s the middle of their range. It’s a pretty good product and it also has a metal chuck. I have owned the lower end brushed dewalt that screwfix also sell.

Have a look at the torque rating the the drill and impact driver. The Einhill is a good 1/3 lower on the drill (44nm vs 65nm). The impact driver isn’t such a stark difference, it’s still 30nm down on the dewalt. The dewalt will have a lot more ooomph behind it.

In terms of the charger all I can see is it’s a ‘40 min’ charger but there is no reference for if that time of for the 2ah battery or the 4ah, I’d guess it’s the 2ah and the 4ah will take twice that to charge.

Personally I wouldn’t worry about the charging speed unless your a pro ripping though a number of batteries a day. For diy it will be more than enough.

I’m still minded to say the Eihell is overpriced in the same basket as the dewalt. The dewalt is a materially better product and is basically the same price.

V helpful post.

All makes sense, will go with the DeWalt. Splurging on a quality drill and then running cheaper tools from other ecosystems with battery adapters for things that'll get less use sounds like the way to go. Spotted your post re. bits/impact heads on the previous page, so will be ordering a few of those also.

Thanks for your input also @dLockers !

picked up the same dewalt a few weeks back - not had to charge either battery yet and they've both done quite a bit of work.....i've also picked up the 'badapter' adapter to let me use the dewalt batteries on ryobi tools and bought the ryobi garden strimmer. very very impressed with the drills and batteries.

Opted for the DeWalt twin pack, and ordered the bare nailer which I plan to use and abuse for the summer and then sell on. Man the thing has got some power, fires 9cm nails into studding like butter, bring on the projects :D

Batteries are the killer -I had a very servicable Bosch 24v GBH SDS drill and battery gave up -At £89 I just binned the drill and bought a £25 Lidl 240v SDS.
All my 18v stuff is Stanley Fat Max and they have bought out a new line of brushless -needless to say my batteries don't fit -You can get a adapter plate new to old but not other way -So can't buy any of the brushless stuff.

Bum - just realised this is a revived thread
