I was going through my OcUK order-history and noticed that my first-ever purchase is still being used today within my main PC.

26-Jan-2010 Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply

It made me wonder how many others use 10+ year-old parts within their systems?

I used my Antec Basiq 550W PSU up until a few days ago, I bought that in 2010. Now have an EVGA 750W Bronze unit as I needed something better for the 6800 XT or RTX 3080 graphics card.

The only thing is i've ever had die on me is motherboards on custom builds I've done myself.

I think a single hard drive too.

All parts should last 10+ years bar a motherboard because it's a complicated part with so much going on. Hard drives you now have smart health and that should help avoid deaths as much and you simply upgrade before it dies.

That's the thing now with SSD I simply end up upgrading every few years and even the worst SSD on the market will last 5-10 years easy.

Parts only die if you skimp on things like the PSU irregular voltage and spikes, etc. Electrical supplies to homes is much better now too. I've not had a power cut in God knows how long used to happen all the time 20 years ago.

As someone who replaces CPU's, mobo's, RAM, and just about everything else yearly, I almost forget that my PSU was passing it's 11th birthday.

850W and £130 were a LOT for a PSU in 2010, but you get what you pay for. It is probably the best value PC component I have purchased. I have literally lost thousands each on CPU's, GPU's and RAM since then.

edit: Even my previous PSU (Corsair HX520W) is still going-strong in my brother-in-law's PC. It must be 13-14 years old.

Until very recently my spare PC was using a case that was well over 10 years old. It's still using a 13+ year old Q6600 and a motherboard and RAM of similar age. Of course, it's my spare PC so sees little use.

Most of the parts in my PC's are less than three years old, but I have one PC that has a motherboard and CPU that are seven years old.

My Asus P6T Deluxe and i7 965 Extreme Edition are still going strong after 12-ish years of near daily use. I've replaced the PSU and GPU a few times but I still have the Radeon HD 5870 that I bought back then (and it still works).

Oh, and the case it's in is 17-ish years old too :D

I have a Q6600 & 4GB DDR2 system that is 14 years old and still works, although it hasn't seen much use at all for 7-8 years.

I have an ASUS EEE PC 1000H that is 13 years old and does still see regular use for a few niche tasks. Apart from a new battery it still works 100%, although most modern webpages are too much for the the 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU and 2GB RAM.

The NZXT case my current PC is in is also 14 years old but that doesn't really count since it's not an electronic component.

I still have a working 10gb HDD from the 90's and a working Voodoo 2, and around 10 working CPU's (last time I checked) from that era.
