Rear view mirror cover

Hi all.

my works van has a rear view mirror, as you can imagine this is utterly pointless as there is a solid bulkhead behind me. the mirror cant be removed as it has the rain sensor and auto headlight sensor etc in.

I have done some googling as it would like to
Cover the mirror part as regardless of angling it it still catches the sun occasionally and its generally annoying and pointless but can only find stuff to Cover the back.

anyone have any ideas or i will have to resort to some kind of untra dark film.

Would a bit of duc-tape solve this? What about a pair of googly eyes to try and hide the tape?

As much as id love to bling my mirror i need something to cover the front of it

Cut out the shape from a cereal packet to cover the mirror surface and then blu tack it on. Should do the job and easy to remove when necessary.

Call me stuck in the past but I'd assume a van driver would know his way around how to block a mirror. What is the van for? Dog grooming or something?

I would probably find any suitable material and fixing method, and then apply them to the mirror.

Cut the mirror part off and leave the sensor?

Or just tape over it and remove at MOT time...

Cut a mirror shaped hole in the bulkhead.

Then tape that over the mirror.

Are you sure the mirror can’t be removed whilst leaving the base? The mirror is likely on a ball joint so you can probably separate it and leave the sensors in place.

In an old van we got given at work temporarily i just pointed it up as high as it would go so i didn't catch the light.

Otherwise i'd cut out some cardboard to shape and stick it in.

can get one of the mirrors that's actually a display and is relaying data from a rear facing camera (do they do that in newer vans anyway)

I had toyed with the idea, for the car, since apparently they can could auto-dim (just) the head-lights on following vehicles.

Won't effect MOT in any way. You need the offside mirror plus one other (nearside or interior), doesn't matter which.
