Worth swapping my 3900x for a 5900x?

I'm thinking of swapping my 3900x for a 5900x, the resolution I use for gaming is 1440 and I only use my PC for gaming. I do us the PC for VR when playing my flightsim iL-2 Sturmovik. I have other apps running like voice attack and windows VR software when playing the sim.

So what do people think, worth swapping? Also has anyone changed from a 3900x to 5900x and was it a noticeable difference in gaming?

Im curious also, got a 3900xt in dec but really wanted a 5900x ... now that availability is here and prices are decent ... wondering - Im actually thinking no. I game at 1440p also and you are running a 6800xt while I am running a 6700xt ... I think we will be fine with our 3900x ... but lets see what others write.

I’m in a similar position - I have a 3900X and a RTX3090FE and use an ultra wide monitor at 1440p. My head tells me upgrading to a 5900 ( or 5950 ) won’t make a significant improvement in most games. The only one that maybe doesn’t hold true is MS Flight Sim 2020 which is known to be both CPU and GPU intensive. I’ve seen examples of maybe a 5-10 FPS improvement with that particular app.

I went from a 3600 to a 5800X and it didn't make much difference gaming @1440p with a 3080 certainly not worth the £400 I paid to upgrade IMO.

It would be worth it for sure. :)

Big difference for me going from a 3950X tuned to a 5950X tuned in gaming ST performance.

You'll also get to use SAM with your 6800 XT.

In the same boat here.

Made the decision a while back that I will skip the 5x series and wait for AM5. Get myself a nice big CPU, mobo, DDR5 upgrade.

Should still get a few quid back for my current bits. I play FS with a 3080 at 1440p and after a few tweaks I’m chugging along nicely at around 30-60fps. Plus, if MS do integrate DX12 in the summer, we should see a nice boost using our current CPU’s.

I've recently gone from a 3900X @ 4.4 all core to a 5900X that's boosting as high as 5.15. I game at 3440*1440 but I've noticed that Warzone definitely feels smoother and my FPS is higher. I've yet to try other games but will report back. I'll likely stay on this until DDR5 matures a bit.

Not for productivity but for gaming it will be better than 3900x. it better to save your money and wait for Ryzen 600 series

Ryzen 3000 series are getting SAM support now as well, so that one thing less to worry about in the should you upgrade from 3900x to 5900x

I have gone from a 3900x to a 5900x. But I've also changed the monitor too. The only game I play currently is warzone and just that alone quite a huge gain in FPS probs say combined with the monitor.

Well in the end I have upgraded my monitor, and ordered a Dell S2721DGFA. Should be a nice upgrade over my current monitor and I can use Freesync now.
