My GTR is being kept in overnight....

It took the mechanic 2.5 hours to change 4 spark plugs.....and now he/she needs to do the next 4. To be fair I would rather get a call asking for some more time not least as I have a loan car so they can do it correctly, rather than a rushed job that I have to moan about because they didn't put it back together as they should or have marked the car because or slap bang wallop. If I had pushed them to get it ready I suspect they would, but a bit more time to get it 100% right is time well spent in my books.

I do love the Mercedes App too. Some nice functions to keep a check on your pride and joy and love the ability to Geofence the car, notifications when it moves in and out of the zone is a nice feature.

Ask for the old spark plugs back if you can. Heard many tales of Mercedes not changing spark plugs despite it being a service item and charged, but having they cheek to say they have lol.

Sometimes you have to put your trust into people. I won't be seeking a box of old spark plugs.

Random question, but if you look at C class mercs from say 2010-15, what's the craic with the various engines. Is there one to avoid between a C220/C250/C350?

A touch disappointed to see this 5 minutes after collecting my car from Mercedes Macclesfield where it had just had its annual service.

This has been one of my historical pet hates and has happened to me several times but this is first time I actually got a message. Usually I pull the dipstick to find it setting over the maximum level but this time I got a nice message....

To be fair the tolerances are really small here and when I did the standard electronic check it showed oil as OK, but a small smidge over and the sensor picked it up. So back it went, they dropped a smidge out and all is good. I will now top it up as and when and next time I told them add 1/2 litre less than Mercedes suggests and I will top it myself. I normally do that, but forgot.

It is probably called by not letting the car fully drain and that smidge of oil left in the sump sets off the sensor.....well that makes sense in my head. Annoying but fixed and the AMG mechanic came to speak in person and take me through the process, so not too annoyed...

You reckon they drain it or suck it out from the top?

Good to hear MB are rectifying, apologising, talking to you, etc rather than just fobbing you off immediately!

There was a few seconds of "it's just a thing that sometimes happens...." but I 'aligned' his thinking on that one and we were quickly on the same page. They dealt with it well, bought out the AMG specialist to talk to me about the process and explain, which is fair enough. Good service shows itself best (ironically) when something goes wrong. They fixed it and did it well so fair play. To add the mechanic agreed that is not sensible to run this car with too much oil, it needs to be right.

Could those of you more familiar with MB cars than me help please?

My gf wants a C-Class Cabriolet around 4-5 yeas old, so W205 range. It has to be diesel. Budget is £20-22.5k.

These are the options:



C250d is the one we'd ideally like, but there doesn't appear to be many on the market, especially in London where we would be looking. That leaves the C220d, ideally the faster one.

The problem is that when looking on AT, and say https://www.mbbrentpark.co.uk/used-car-results.aspx?COGManufacturer=Mercedes-Benz&COGModel=C Class&COGPriceTo=25000&COGFuelType=Diesel&COGBodyType=Convertible&COGOrderBy=PRICE, most of the cars are advertised as G-Tronic+ models, yet the advertised specs show 8.1/8.2s 0-60. So I am not really sure what model is in fact being advertised?

Parkers gives me these options:

C220d - 167 bhp - 8.0s
C220d 9G-Tronic Plus (4matic) - 167 bhp - 7.9s (7.8s)
C250d - 201 bhp - 7s

1. Is there likely to be much difference between the two C220d versions?
2. Anything else that can give away the exact spec/model, should we go to viewings? I presume the logbook would?

/edit - maybe it's to do with wiki's data not being for UK models?

Without any more details my guess would be that the first one is pre-facelift, which had the 7G-Tronic gearbox and the second is post-facelift with the 9G.

The 9G is *much* nicer to drive, especially if you live near a lot of roundabouts as I found the 7G would always lag slightly when exiting one due to being it generally in between 2nd/3rd gear. Not the end of the world, but in Milton Keynes you notice it A LOT. My only gripe with the 9G is that it's a bit of a pain to get it in to reverse sometimes unless you've completely stopped for a couple of seconds. You can't put it in reverse while still slowing as you could with the 7G.

The page you linked to shows most of the info already. Prem Plus models generally included the Burmester stereo upgrade (the silver speaker grills are the give away for this one), the larger 19" 14 spoke wheels and pano roof - the latter obviously assuming you're going for saloon or coupe.

Generally speaking I wouldn't worry too much about the 0-60 times matching between various sources. There's so many different quoted figures that 0.1s here or there doesn't really matter. That said, I would guess the wiki screenshot is for the saloon and the times you've got are specifically for the heavier cabrio.

I have a MY16 250d estate. The engine is nice for a diesel and I personally would get a 250 over a 220, however the 7G is a bit annoying. It could be so much better with a better gearbox, but as above its not the end of the world.

Regarding 0.60 times, apparently mine does it in 6.7s but I doubt it. 7.2ish more like it feels. However when rolling 30-70 is REALLY nice.

So v quick question 250d or 250 petrol c class coupe 2018. Is the merc diesel worth having over the petrol?

I have not driven the petrol, however I do not like the sound of my 250d. The sound is one thing that always makes me question keeping it. I have questioned myself before that if the torque and power was the same on the petrol and I had the choice to swap would I........I am unsure....but maybe.

Ugh. Had my nearside front alloy repaired in December due to a crack. Got into the car today and had quite a loss of pressure in it again, so took it to Kwik fit and they've confirmed that the weld has cracked, on both the inside and the outside.

Don't recall hitting any potholes recently but must have done.

Question is, can it be repaired again? Or is it time for me to suck up the £900 its going to cost for a new alloy?
