Hopefully the latter. Glad my prediction was right anyway :D

Yea, at least White didn’t nearly score an own goal :D

Having watched his this season at Brighton he does seem pretty decent, always willing to go forward and not the worst at shooting.

Whilst he can play as a DM it’d be foolish to pick another defender, take another midfielder pls.

JWP in please, need him on set pieces with TAA out (and to be clear, I'm not saying that's the only thing he brings to the squad, we need someone like him who be backup for Henderson as a genuine central midfield rather than attacking midfield.

What’s the point in bringing a set piece specialist who probably won’t start any games?

Nearly added something about that as a caveat heh :)

The thing is, of you go down that line of argument, you could say what's the point in bringing any players that won't start any games - what's the point in a goal poacher if he's not going to play many games, what's the point of a 3rd choice keeper, what's the point of a 4th choice RB etc. The idea is you pick a squad of the best players spread across the positions, and if he does get on the pitch, he'd be a massive asset on dead balls. If he doesn't, then it's not really any different than than any other player that doesn't play.

Additionally, remember you get extra subs in extra time these days, you could bring him on before a penalty shootout. So you don't need him to start in that situation. And to reiterate what I said earlier, I'm not suggesting that's the only reason he's in the squad, he'd be there because he's a good player, that just gives a bonus.

It's not the worst decision. We clearly need centre back cover whilst White can also play holding midfield. I was hoping JWP or Watkins would get included, but our midfield and forward players are all much more versatile than in previous tournaments that a centre half is probably the right choice.

Quite a rise for the guy - in the space of two seasons he's gone from a loan at a smallish Championship club to the European Championships :D

All credit goes to Marcelo :)

Probably the sensible choice given Maguires injury which suggests he isn't going to be ready.

Also points to the likelihood of him playing 3 at the back which means one of Grealish/Mount/Foden is going to miss out.

I suppose it makes sense to cover off Maguire - even if he gets fit enough to play I guess he is at risk of picking up another ankle injury.

I'm just happy he didn't go with another forward/midfielder ahead of JWP, that would've been bonkers.

Happy for White, he’s gonna be snapped up by a big team in a year or two most likely.

Bit gutted for JWP though, he does deserve a spot, should just drop Maguire and bring him in.

Hopefully the cameras can focus on racists booing and they can be ejected.

You can't kick people out of a game for booing something they don't agree with just because you don't like it and have decided that they must be racist. I don't agree with taking the knee before every game. I wouldn't boo it but I think people are allowed to do what they want within reason. Players can choose to take the knee (and by choose I mean be accused of being racist if they don't) and fans can choose to boo it (and be accused of being racist).

What a world we live in eh.

Hopefully, we can focus on football and no genuinely racist incidents occur.

As for taking the knee, I think it's a bit crass to boo it and I've no doubt some of those doing it are racist but to tar everyone booing it with the same brush is a bit daft.

Having attended every England home game for 12-24 months back in Hodgson's day (I don't know why either) I found you get a fairly even split of England supporters. Around a third are your typical, sensible football fans, a third are families on a day out with painted faces and mexican waves and the final third are your stereotypical Millwall/West Ham yobs chanting about world wars, the IRA and calling everyone ****s.

While I'm sure there will be people in the first two groups that don't support taking the knee, the vocal opposition will be coming from the final group and they're going to continue booing no matter what. They'll then try to defend themselves by saying you shouldn't mix politics with sport before another rendition of "no surrender to the IRA"

Why, its a perfect way to identify the racists or the spanners who think its marxist or some other excuse for their being racist.
