Out of curiosity, is there much difference other than price between

BALLISTIX 64GB (2X32GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT £349.99
and
Corsair vengeance RGB Pro 64 (2x32GB) DDR4 £499.99
If its going to save £150 and there is not much in it might as well save the difference.

Grabbed 64GB RAM from 10+ years ago. Never regreted it since. Use the system for all sorts though; video editing, image editing, bug testing, minor development, gaming, RAM Disk temp storage (for security/sensitive stuff and scratch disk for less wear on SSDs). Would easily grab more if the opportunity arises. But my use cases go through that RAM quick and fast.

As for your current dilema. My personal views have always been: Grab MORE Memory at less speed and less price. Since it's cheaper, I'd grab the cheaper one automatically. When you end up using "that much" memory, it's memory amount that really counts, over memory speed or RGB. And since it's price involved too, definitely go with the lower priced one.

What speed is the Corsair and do you care about the esthetic of your ram?

home pcs that exceed 32GB are either stealth workstations or owned by someone who never closes chrome :p
I never close chrome on my work laptop and must have 50+ tabs open, spreadsheets and various communication tools / video conferencing. 16gb and it doesn't touch the sides. However my GPU and CPU struggle a lot, especially when doing video calls.

More ram doesn't equal greater performance unless you need more ram...

Depends what you use it for. If you have a lot of VM's going even 256gb won't be overkill

For the average desktop user, it will be ridiculous overkill unless you want to just use all of that for a RAMDisk

Most people nowadays say 16gb is the standard, but I have a couple of friends who say that your PC will use more RAM if it's available. And so they recommend using 32GB if possible, also if your motherboard and CPU both support quad channel then it would be best to take advantage of it for better CPU performance.

Using 16gb at the moment and it’s a bit old and laggy, but I have budget to go to 128.

Maybe fast 2x32

'Fast 2x32' doesn't exist. It goes up to 3600 CL18 and will barely overclock.

2x16 is now up to 4000 CL14 / 4400 CL19 with room for overclocking / tightening timings with more voltage.

Im sat on a 2x16 kit that cost £150 thats been overclocked 4200 CL16 for over a year now.

Or you could be a guinea pig and try out a 2x32 kit and see if it will overclock at all. But if you don't actually need the capacity its a waste of money and will give you reduced performance.

Have you used ram usage monitoring graphs to check your actual ram usage? Theres one in the performance of tab of the ctrl alt del system manager tool, and also one in MSI Afterburner.

Yes, They both contain 32gb ram more than you will use, but you dont seem to want to listen to anyone on here.

128GB is a lot to leave lying around when DDR5 arives soon.

This is worth considering as the DDR4 you buy now may not be usable in a new system 3-5 years down the line when DDR5 is the standard.

Personally I'd buy 2 X 16gb Dimms to get 32gb now with the option add 2 more in future if required.

You like telling people your opinion dont you. I have a home use for 128gb so will be changing from 32. Just because YOU do not, doesnt mean others dont either
So far you haven't specified any use.
So how about you start by listing that to actually sound credible?
